Aleah has yet to do AA this season and due to her wrist she has been rested more than the rest of our big scorers, especially on bars where it’s more likely to hurt her wrist more and given what vault she’s been doing lately. That’s said, given that NQS scoring will start for us next week, we need a solid road score (as Jay said) before I’d be ok with our big scorers being rested to offset the 2 lower early season meet scores.

I agree. Honestly we need to press u til we get two more scores at least over 197.5, but hopefully at least 197.8-ish.
Also, I am totally fine with Aleah not doing bars, wrist or no - because her dismount is not consistent enough to routinely score well (“well” is relative, but it is very hard for her to go over 9.85 with that dismount).
I feel similarly about the omelianchik and hope to see Brock (or even any of the others) trying for another 1.5 in place of her vault. It’s beautiful, but very hard to plan and so harshly scored comparatively.

I am trying not to be catastrophic, but I feel like this season is getting away from them. I know it’s still early and there are at least 6-7 regular season meets left, but it really is not a ton of time if they can’t find consistency, especially away.
I feel the same! This is supposed to be our year! Every year we are told, starting off at Gym 101 and the first couple of meets, they’re not focusing on stuck landings. That will come later. But here we are, heading into the latter part of the season, and stuck landings are few and far between. The exception and not the rule. It’s definitely worrisome!

We should be in the mix this year, with a really good shot. When you get to nationals, it's up to the judges.
If we can start sticking landings, we should be favored. Other than that, Oklahoma has nothing on us. No sticks, no championship. I really feel it all boils down to that.

Though not talked about a lot, Drayton is gonna be a good one for us
You called it back in November! I love Amari and can’t wait to see her for 4 years! Will she ever do AA?

Zoe Miller has scratched the Winter Cup with some type of injury. Hopefully it is not too serious to prevent her Olympic Trials efforts.

I hope she doesn’t come in too injured. This is the reason I like the level 10 more in general. Also one of the reasons I think ok has so much success.

Our 2024 class already taking a beating. Chio is even injured right now.

ehh their greatest gymnast ever is Maggie Nichols, an injured elite. Reagan Smith currently on roster same thing. Jordan Bowers iirc had injury problems as a level 10.
KJ Kindler is just the Saban of college gym. She and her staff know how to identify talent who has the mentality to fit their program. They are doing something and train in a way that no other program in the country has seemingly tapped into. What that something is? I have no idea that is the million dollar question if it was so easy every program would replicate it

Lily lippeat looks like desiderio a few seasons ago. Practically her whole leg is wrapped. She looked great on beam though.

I think Maggie Nichols is also the reason almost every gymnast in the country is doing 2 pass routines now and I’m not a huge fan of those. Also when Regan came in she was only doing an event or 2. When Maggie came in they had plenty of other talent to cover. Also jay is, happily, very cautious with his freshman.

Jay is def using his freshmen this year, Drayton is doing 2 events and Konnor likely will be doing 3 in post season. I'd say its a fair amount of routines for year one. We have so much depth and talent we dont need any freshmen doing AA
Coen not competing doesn't surprise me, she had been out with injuries the previous two years. Hopefully with another full offseason she can contribute somewhere. She was terrific in JO. The incoming recruiting class for 24 is loaded between Chio, Miller, Lincoln, Zeiss. Two of those likely are going to make the olympic trials

When rankings come out Monday,
@LSUgym
will be ranked #2. It will be their highest ranking since Week 7 of 2021.
It would be golden to have a high 197 or a 198 in Florida. The judging will need to be unbiased and our team focused with the determination to perform as they do in the PMAC.

I feel like Coen will have a breakout sophomore year once she gets to full health. She should be in contention for the bars, beam, and floor lineup next season.
Did Chio ever say what kind of injury she suffered last month? I saw her post in a boot and on crutches but didn't hear anything else. I'm quick to assume Achilles.

To add to that: Beam will also move up to #5. If we can hit another solid away beam rotation at Florida in the final rotation, it’ll pull our average up even more before NQS kicks in so we won’t have to count our beam score from the Sprouts meet in our Beam NQS

Lippeat and Beard were initially part of the same LSU class…one lost her scholarship and is now competing 2-4 events per week and the other seems to only be training one event and is barely seeing any lineup time :/
Posted on 2/18/24 at 9:55 pm to Twz
True, but making a lineup at a 1st year program is far different than making a lineup on this year's LSU team
Posted on 2/18/24 at 11:25 pm to lsugymfann
I am curious - why does our beam NQS matter? (I mean, I certainly want us to improve), but I thought the NQS was the NQS for overall scores, not the NQS as calculated by adding the four event NQS’s together. So I am curious if that’s right - or if there is another reason the event NQS is important.

According to Alyona’s Snapchat stories she often posts of practice, Annie is also currently training vault again. I’m guessing she’ll add floor and bars back in over the next year or so again
[EDIT]: she was spotted training floor today as well
