NQS applies to all events, including the team AA score so starting next week, all rankings will be solely based on NQS for the individual event scores and the AA scores for both individual and team rankings. It matters because once it kicks in, until we can erase the low away meet score from earlier this year at the Sprouts meet, we’ll be back to being ranked lower on beam than any of our other 3 events

But, I guess my question is does it matter for anything else other than saying where we are ranked on beam ? For example, our overall NQS is on a meet by meet basis, not on an event by event basis - so to me, it seems that this only matters for saying where we are ranked by apparatus (again glad to have this be as high as possible, but doesn’t seem like it matters for SEC or post-season ceding?) and regardless of our beam rank, I will be very excited to get rid of our low 197 scores for general overall NQS purposes.

tbh the way i see it we are pretty much locked into a top 3 NQS. At worst, we will go into post season ranked #4.

#1 is out of reach.
Cal seems to be slipping there is a chance they peaked too early like the last couple years of Michigan. Utah has question marks their vault is very average this year, but they are still a veteran team that can't be counted out.

I like our group better than either Utah or Cal. Cal can't beat Oklahoma they don't have mega score potential, they are a consistent quality 197.8 team, but that isn't gonna get it done in the year 2024. To have a shot to win the natty, you need to be able to put up a 198.2+

IMO we are the only team that has a shot at Oklahoma this year. They have to find their landings come SEC and onward.

Does anyone know why some schools have multiple AAI candidates and LSU only has one each year?

*apparently* coaches themselves are the ones who send in their nominees but that makes me wonder why Jay never nominated Kiya last year or this year

I think maybe because kiya was out most of last year. I mean I guess. Also maybe some of the coaches don’t want the vote split if they have more than 1 athlete. On a side note I think if you made it last year you should not be eligible again the next. For example bama has plenty of other seniors they could nominate other than Louisa, and I think Louisa is a beautiful gymnast. I didn’t see Michigan nominate sierra again so kudos to them! Utah, y’all have more than maile okeefe.

I am wondering if Haleigh is truly making this her last year to compete. She has said this in many interviews this season. I would love to see her come back for a fifth year. I would think Haleigh would want a graduate degree with her major. It is a wait and see at this point with hope for her return!

On to the next thing. There is a lot of lsu score shaming going on, on the Utah/ucla thread. Saying they both would have been 198’s but honestly neither team had a great night on all the events. I get there is overscoring but let’s not pretend it’s only happening at the pmac. Eyeroll

I think this is truly Haleigh’s last year. Someone said she had other plans for next year.

They said the same foolishness last year that LSU was in for a wakeup call once the tournament started.
Then they had to eat sh*t and watch the girls make the Final 4 over their precious programs like UCLA and Cal

They can cry more.

We will see about Bryant. People with alleged inside info on this board maintained Kiya wasn't coming back up until literally the week she announced it.

There is also an entire Reddit thread devoted to the fact that LSU is scoring much lower away. What they fail to realize is that it hasn’t been even close to the same caliber away as at home (and of course there has been over scoring), but the real actual story is the inconsistency, which hopefully continues to improve this week at Florida.

Petition to limit schools to one nominee each! Bryant is a strong contender, probably her biggest competition is Maile O’Keefe who has more 10s and was AA champ last year. Or Raena for helping bring Kentucky to the top tier.

Would love to see her come back. That’s one spot to not worry about. She is a genetic freak and as far as I know has never really been hurt. She is the benchmark in gymnastics. Only persons I can think her equal is the girl from Florida and Swamy Maggie.

There are so many LSU critics in the gymnastics community. It is never ending. I do believe it is a matter of "jealousy of" ranging from our stellar recruits, our facility, our fans, and the team's resiliency in coming from behind and the fight to rise to the top. The Pacific west critics are the worst. Reddit is full of them and there is always a "hate fest" when LSU does well in a meet. The rescoring of meets on social media is LAME to me. Most of these people can't "let go" of the reality that over scoring and underscoring HAPPENS with EVERY team! Rescoring a team's meet changes nothing!! It only satisfies the person rescoring it and the "sore tailed cats" that are whining over a meet they can't control. Rant over! It just gets to me at times.

Maybe UCLA fans should focus on their athletes not hitting routines instead of whining about what is happening in the SEC.

Also they are pretending LSU hasn't already beaten both UCLA and Utah this year, at a neutral site, WITH LSU COUNTING THE EQUIVILENT OF A FALL. The ONLY team that day who counted a score that low iirc

I agree. I am feeling hopeful for this weekend. If we can find some more landings on bars adn vault and then can show some nerves of steel to close out on balance beam - then I think we have a really good chance for a strong road score. I'd like to beat them in their own house...but its a tall order when the home team ends on floor.

We gotta start dialing in on vault landings a bit more if we were to be constructive. Gotta start hitting those landings a bit better as we advance. I just know vaults who dont hit their landings generally are gonna get hit come post season so thats gonna be really important to maximize our rotation score.

I'm still a bit shocked how Brock isn't being used this year unless she has an underlying issue we dont know about. I know that 1.5 vault developed so much last year and was such a big vault for us, she looked great at 101 and intrasquads. I know she was away from the team briefly at the beginning and had a mistake on her first vault back but I was kind of expecting her to be in the lineup eventually.

Aleah going to the 1.5 is the right move. That first vault was very encouraging.

Tiger, do you know why haven’t seen Cammy at all on vault? I would sure like to see 6 10. Vaults come post season. I love kj’s full but judges this year seem to be really stingy with giving any score above 9.85 on a full.

Though you didn't ask me, I'll add my two cents here - it is because Cammy's vault has very poor form and was inconsistent at Utah. In addition, I think she has been injured and perhaps not training as much - so, in this one case, I think that going with a full over a 1.5 makes sense.

As Tigerbait mentions, though, I am not sure where Brock is with her 1.5 because that is the one that is really missing from this lineup. I cant imagine that it has regressed so far from last year as to render it unusable - but perhaps it has.
