Jay was honest when he stated that it is hard to win a meet in Missouri. The judging there has always been hard on incoming teams over the years. I just want to see the team hit their routines showing consistency and get a decent road score.

Jillian, Elena, Bryce and Alyona not dressed in Leo’s today for practice. Jillian the only surprise there, I really hope she gets a chance to compete this year.
Would like to see someone rested this week aside from Aleah (assuming she still has a minor wrist issue) such as Kiya on vault and floor or Bryant on floor.

I’ll be honest…I am of two minds on the rest issue. I do want us to use our depth and rest Kiya/Haleigh - but we also need to try to make some headway on road scores; I know it’s still early, but I would feel better if we could get one keepable road score in January. I was hoping that podium meet would do it - but it was just too early (and I think we were hampered being in the first group a bit…cal, while a good team and probably the best they have been, started off high in the second session).

Based on the lineup order in practice today Ashley was still in the 2 spot on bars and Livvy was first in the floor rotation before Ballard (Kiya was 7th). No clips of Konnor on bars or Amari on vault (maybe they fell). But who knows what Jay will do on Friday.

Every routine she did was rough, her vault had a giant hope, a fall each on beam/floor.
Jay needs to be more aware of Aleah's competitive mood after each event. I saw signs of "I am not on tonight" after vault. Jay surely should have seen it on floor. She's a gorgeous gymnast. We have too much depth for this year to go south.

Aleah has been bad both times she has competed @ Mizzou.
In her freshman year, she fell on floor and beam on almost the exact same skills. Dont know what it means, but food for thought.
At minimum, we need her on beam the most every week and I hope she can contribute. there is no reason for her to be on vault put Chase Brock in. Floor can be a flex position depending on how things go.
Feels like he is trying to get a rotaiton going on Aleah/Bryant/Kiya off on floor while working Drayton & Konnor in.
I will give Jay credit for resting Aleah the week prior on floor, and resting Bryant on floor on Firday that is rare of him to do, but some of the others have to focus to take the burden off of Bryant. They know who they are and they know their floors let the team down on Friday. Just have to focus. It's only about to be February so let them cook.

Pippa, I agree. I wish KJ could compete another vault. She has so much power and struggles to stick the YFull consistently. I do think she is judged harder than some of the YFulls we see from other teams.
There's still hope for our beam to be consistent this season. Annie has always been a great beamer so she will figure out what is needed to calm the nerves. I thought Haleigh and Sierra's scores were low compared to what some of Missouri's girls were scoring with obvious mistakes.
It amazes me how many teams are already hitting 49.5 on beam this early in the season. I thought the judging in Pac12 and several more conferences was lenient compared to the SEC this past weekend.

I am trying not to be catastrophic, but I feel like this season is getting away from them. I know it’s still early and there are at least 6-7 regular season meets left, but it really is not a ton of time if they can’t find consistency, especially away.
Re: KJ’s vault, I really wish they had made a priority to push the double; in post season, a full is only worth anything if it is stuck, and even then maybe not worth enough. The fact of the matter is those are judged much harsher than 1.5s and truly much much harsher than say kiya’s double.
As to Aleah, I agree that beam is really only the *critical* piece where we need her. Floor is almost critical, but we have enough there to make up for her, I think. As for vault, the omelianchik is just comparatively judged too harshly compared to yurchenko style vaults or front pike halfs.
Honestly, I think the whole thing started when Konnor fell (which is not Konnor’s fault), and they all got tight. I am interested in why that specifically seemed to be a problem for them (and they didn’t really get tight after cowan fell the week prior). I will add cowan’s bars were a bright spot on Friday for sure.
All in all, there is time, but I think RQS will kick in two weeks and if we don’t get some major scores soon, we will find ourselves potentially outside the top 10 when it starts and maybe even in the bottom half of the sec with the scores Kentucky bama Florida and Missouri are putting up. That is just patently unacceptable (I haven’t done the math but that’s what it feels like to me at this point with especially Kentucky and Missouri putting up nearly best-ever scores at every outing, or many)
In an article in the paper, Jay said the performance and lack of mental toughness was unacceptable. It will be interesting to see how they address it.

Consistency and mental toughness is the key. Perhaps they think they can come from behind as they did last year but the Climb will be grueling with California, Kentucky, Bama, Utah and even Arkansas showing consistency in scores meet after meet this season. It is imperative at this time to find the answer in practice for consistency and mental toughness. The team is missing these key components on ROAD MEETS with the exception of several gymnasts that never disappoint meet after meet. Sticking vaults has gone south and WHY? We are suppose to be a top team in vaulting. Frustration is an understatement at this point.

I will say this much: I think most of us would consider last week the worst meet we've had since Kentucky last year. Every event had its flaws, we had 3 falls from athletes who are capable of giving 10's on those said events, and they still put up a 197.225 on the road.
We have seen what they are capable of if they put together a complete meet. Things should be automatic, but they just aren't right now and Jay has to get them focused. Idk if it's the docu-series providing extra distraction, Olympics, or what, but they need to unplug and focus.
Jay has gotta get them to buy in, because his neck is potentially on the line here. Not gonna be an easy time going to the AD and boosters at the end of the season if he doesn't have an SEC championship and a top3 finish in hand. This is the best roster money can buy, and he is gonna have to answer for it if they don't deliver. Not that I think he is in jeopardy this year of getting fired, but some the assistant coaches might fall on the sword. Usually in football if things are going bad, the HC gets a chance to fire his OC/DC before he himself gets it.

The break down is on ROAD meets. They thrive at home with all the fan support and excitement in the PMAC. This team has to put together the consistency and mental toughness to earn the quality scores on the ROAD that will count toward the RQS and NQS.
I believe a lot is expected from this team/coaches this year from fans, boosters and the AD considering the depth of talent. The team has to take care of business on the remainder of ROAD Meets this season.

It’s happening! It looks like they are putting the highest potential on floor. I’m super excited to see what they can do.

Can we re-sticky this? I know I (and others) have asked before - but maybe now it’s really time.

Is anyone else getting worried about Haleigh’s shoulder? She literally gets treatment it seems everyday. That’s not good.

We have so much depth you can rest her on a couple events. We don't need her, Kiya, Aleah doing AA every week

Jay said in his previous press conference that they probably will not rest our big scorers (Kiya, Haleigh, Aleah, Konnor) until we have a solid away score. Hopefully, we can get a high 197 or even a 198 at Georgia this week.
