re: LSU Gymnastics Recruiting Thread (2024 and 2025 Recruiting Classes)

I think Utah will see a dip in recruitment in the next few years given the amount of transfers and abuse allegations. They have a very lackluster 2025 class, and I expect that will continue until issues are resolved.

I highly doubt issues will ever be resolved at Utah given that university’s history of ignoring issues of stalking and abuse and trying to sweep them under the rug

Nola Matthews just committed to UCLA
Posted on 11/11/23 at 4:37 pm to lsugymfann
UCLA got some huge commits today. One thing to keep in mind is that from this point on, any UCLA commit will be on the team during the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. That’s got to be a big draw for some gymnasts, especially the younger ones who are hoping to make that Olympic team. I think that will be something to watch going forward and could really boost UCLA’s recruiting the next 2-3 years.

On the other hand, the Big 10 realignment will mean unreasonable travel due to the vast distances between each school. I'm interested to see how their next few classes shape up.

I thought Tiana was a Cal lock. Wonder if the realignment had anything to do with it.

I actually think a lot of it is Okla all has the same boring cookie cutter routines that’s don’t push the difficulty level. Kindler is playing the game. The game sucks this way but we can’t control that. What we can control are our dismounts and leap series. If we can’t at least somewhat change those we will never win a championship.
Despite how good they have been, they are somehow boring to watch.
I think it was 2019 when we finished second and I wanted to riot at the judging. It was like the judges did not care about le/feet separation at all. OU stuck every single landing but it looked like the girls were doing back squats their feet were so far apart. Of course they are going to stick the landings. I will give them props though, last year I couldn't make that complaint, they were sticking landing s and it looked like their feet were glued together.

Outside of the clips that were posted on the LSU Gym Instagram, was anyone able to see today’s intrasquad and have any insight on how the team looks a month out from Gym 101?

I wasn't aware that it was on her Instagram. Some people aren't on Instagram so the video was shared for those who may not have seen it.

Intrasquad was great. They actually fielded two full teams going head to head with 6 athletes (at least) going on each event. Some things that stood out:
1. Looked so much more polished than even 2 weeks ago. They look great.
2. I really think we only saw one full in the vault lineup - from KJ. But it's been two days so there could have been one more. Amari had a huge 1.5 on vault with a big pop off the table. Chase followed her with more height than last year and stuck hers cold.
3. On bars, we finally saw a double tuck dismount! It came from Amari in combo with a clear-hip. Konnor added a pretty 1/2 in 1/2 out dismount and Alyona still had the same dismount, but she did stick on Friday.
4. Beam was a stick-a-thon until Konnor, who had a large leg up on her series and then randomly fell on her low beam choreo. I don't know her routine well enough to know what happened; at first I thought she was hurt but I think that's just the face she made for falling on something like that. Regardless, there were only two girls left and they got rattled. Kiya had a huge bend at the waist on her series and then Aleah fell on her series. Would have been nice to see hits after a fall, so we'll just need to watch that moving forward. But that was the third rotation and we basically had 27-27 stuck routines to that point (little things here in there, but all hits)
5. Did not see Konnor on floor, she did a double on vault to the resi that was kind of low, but would have been to her feet on the floor I think (everyone is always different with how skills translate from resi to floor so without seeing her everyday, there's really no telling.)
6. Saw everyone in an event (that you would expect) except Elena, Jillian, Kai and Bryce. Bryce was only listed for vault but she must have scratched

Ugh... one thing I did forget to mention from the Intrasquad that really disappointed me- Kiya competed a 3 pass floor routine. There is no need for her to be ending floor with the same double pike. Granted she does it beautifully, but that's just additional pounding on her body that just isn't needed.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is Annie looks great on beam. Her leaps and polish will definitely bring an upgrade to that lineup.

I get what youre saying but this will be the last year of gym for the rest of her life. Go out with a bang.

Agreed. Also: she knows her body better than anyone else and the way they reconstruct your Achilles tendon after a tear, it’s virtually impossible to tear it a third time (especially once both have been repaired). Plus the coaches can always alter her routine to 2 passes if needed as the season progresses like they did with the majority of our floor routines during the 2023 season

Is Beard exclusively training beam? Her floor was very promising a few years ago!

Wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case for this year at least given her history of injuries especially in her shoulders
