Based on what? He was 4th in ppg for Ole Miss as a true freshman, started 22 games so he comes with experience and I know he only shot 40% from the field but he did shoot 36% from 3 which is above average and would’ve been 2nd on the team last year….and was a top 150 player out of high school.

Stop posting.

On a team that was worse than LSU.

He had a negative BPR last season, and every LSU guard other than Justice Williams rated out higher than Abram on the season.

I would prefer to see LSU pick up Stewart or Girard over Abram.

I’m not “offended”, I just don’t agree with your post at all and I don’t think you should use metrics to solely define a player, or his potential in an entirely different system with an entirely different cast of players. If stats were the end all be all, in person scouting would be pointless. This kid has all the intangibles to be an NBA player. I’ve personally watched him play at a very high level for a long time. Granted, he shouldn’t have committed there to begin with, but using this BPR bs to come to a conclusion that he’s not very good is not how a basketball player should be judged. That’s why I said you should stop posting. No need to be apologetic.

I haven’t watched Amaree, but I like to compare their stats relative to others on their team. Amaree was near the bottom of the roster on BPM, but his eFG was decent at about 47%. Since he was just a freshman, and he has good size, it would be good to get someone like him to hopefully have for 3 years. He seems like he’s a slightly improved version of Adam Miller, so I would be glad to get him. I prefer Girard and Stewart, but we also need a guard with size like Amaree. The thing is that we only have room for 2 if we still plan to get another post player. Amaree and Girard and LSU leans, so they are more likely to be our new guards. I wouldn’t be too disappointed if we take all 3 guards and rely on Chest, Reed, Fountain and Baker to hold down the post. Mwani and Ward will also provide help in the post.

We can't take all 3 guards. We need a rim protector

Amaree is a kid that really needs the ball in his hands. He is a creator. I understand that we already have Cook this year as the primary ball handler and if we do get Girard or Stewart, it will limit that for him. However….we really really struggled with shot creation off the bench last year. We had no “lightning in a bottle”. This is him. He can get more minutes than he did at Ole Miss because you can sub him for Cook or for one of the wings because he is 6’5 and we can play small. We need someone that can do that for a year and he can grow into a primary ball handler the next year after Cook and Stewart/Girard leave. We can’t have a bunch of grad transfers come in this year, we need a young player with experience and potential so we can focus on other things for the future and we’re not offering every god forsaken kid in the portal every off season.

Amaree also has major connections here in Southeast Texas and I know for a fact 3 players(1 currently in college, 2 in high school), that will be highly interested if we grab him too.

a 6th man is definitely worth something, but the issue is whether he would come here behind a crowd of guards.

presumably mcmahon tells all players that starting spots and minutes are there to earn for everyone, but there is already a a logjam at guard that is about to get worse with girard.

would love to have him. could be a tough job recruiting him.

Well, I know he is wanting to be closer to home. From what I know, the 2 schools that are highest on his list are LSU and Houston. Houston just signed Cryer and they have a bigger log jam and talent at Guard than we do. If he wants to run the show and stay close to home, he’s going to have to entertain SMU, Louisiana Tech. LSU makes the most sense for him for the future especially considering the new transfer rules.

Right now we have Cook ( if elligible) and Trae. Wright is a guard but he was a tall guard in a 3 guard lineup (aka small forward). Even throwing Wright into the mix, that is 2 or 3 guards if Cook is eligible, which isn't certain.. at least to me.

all of that is correct if we assume neither girard nor stewart are coming. my understanding is there are fairly high chance at least one of them is.

If Cook is not eligible next year, does he count against the 13 scholarship limit? If he isn’t available, then we need 3 more guards.

This would be big. There is the question of how his skill set will transfer to the SEC, but that is across the board for guys playing at smaller schools. MM could roll out a starting lineup with Fountain, Wright, and Stewart and have three players with positive Defensive BPR (DBPR). Losing Hayes is bigger than people think, as he was the best-graded defensive guard for LSU.

A lineup of Hayes, Stewart, Wright, Fountain & Reed (improved on defense through the season and is projected to grade out with a positive DBPR next season) would give LSU a starting lineup with an overall positive DBPR which is a trait that basically all successful teams have.

If we could lure Phillips back I would be happy with:
C - Baker / Phillips
PF - Fountain / Reed / Chest
SF - Ward / Wilkinson / Wright

Mack isn’t a rim protector. He’s similar to Baker. Chewy and Whoseman would be fine. I prefer Phillips because of the promise he showed near the end of the season.
