According to Jordy Culotta, Lsu is recruiting this guy heavily, in light of Cisse going the other way

Is he eligible right away? You can bet your arse with Cisse all but out of the picture now Wade isn't sitting on his arse!

Would probably be a good mix in with Watford and LeBlanc

“there's a strong sense that he'd be eligible right away after the Cowboys were hit with NCAA sanctions, which included a postseason ban.”

Lsu potentially picking up players from programs hit with sanctions, the ultimate irony

The thought seems to be that Watford is leaning a bit more towards leaving. That said, while losing out on a likely lottery pick who just a few weeks ago you thought you had all but signed is tough, getting a very experienced center who can give you some inside scoring, but more importantly, rim protection (was 4th in the Big 12 in blocked shots last year and LED the Big 12 in that category two years ago) would be a GREAT fall back option. shite! It would be almost the absolute next best case scenario

Wade has shown over the course of three years that his teams can score. That's never been the problem. So even if this guy isn't a tremendous offensive player, I suspect Wade's team will still be able to score. It's the other side of the ball that has limited LSU. With a true freshman, even one as talented as Cisse seems to be, there is a learning curve coming from HS/AAU to major conf. basketball. Here, LSU could be getting a guy who is already beyond that curve as he has been a two year starter in a big time conference and proven to be a capable shot blocker. Hell, in a game vs. LSU two years ago in 19 foul plagued minutes he had 8 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.

The issue is can LSU get him? We know Wade can recruit. No doubt about it. But this kid almost assuredly is leaving OSU because of the 1 year post season ban. It will be THE reason he petitions for immediate eligibility. So if that is his reason for leaving, you can bet you last dollar every other school recruiting him is going to negatively recruit LSU just like Dickie V did. Hell, those schools may even use Dickie V in the same manner as the coaches/schools used him in the Cisse recruitment.

He's a shot blocker, LINK

4.1 blocks per 40 minutes at ok state as a freshman/sophomore. This is what Wade wants near the rim in his new defense. It's basially a poorer mans Cisse, he wont be the offensive threat Cisse could be, but still block some shots on defense.

Doubt Cisse would’ve averaged much more than 10 pts a game for us with all the other offensive talent we have. His impact would’ve been on the defensive end blocking shots. This dude from Okie State seems to be an elite shot blocker. Great back up plan for Cisse if you ask me

From a pure shot blocking stand point it's hard to say he is a "poorer man's Cisse. Now, Cisse could be the best shot blocker in the nation next year. We don't know. But this guy is a known commodity. If you finish 1st and 4th in blocked shots in the Big 12 there there is NO DOUBT he can be a rim protector in the SEC. Hell, he could actually be a BETTER shot blocker than Cisse

He likely wouldn't have given that anyway unless he is just that proficient of an offensive rebounder. His offensive game is his weakness at this point; so LSU wouldn't have been counting on him for that, nor would they have really needed him to be a double digit offensive threat anyway.

I’ll take a poor man’s KBW. Really could’ve used that kind of player last season.

Agree with all of this. If Wade can pull this off, then I go back to feeling just as confident about this year's team as I did when I thought we were getting Cisse.

I never was counting on Cisse to be a major offensive threat. Just wanted him for his defense and rebounding, which it appears Anei can give you the same of and about the same offensive production that we likely would have seen out of Cisse. So that is a win/win. Plus we could get him for 2 years as opposed to 1, which gives Gray even more time to develop and for you to restock the roster with another big guy in next year's class.

My only curiosity or question is that I wonder why his minutes were reduced some in year 2 (20.3 avg) over year 1 (23.5), in which is blk numbers were almost a full block per game less (2.7 vs. 1.9) as well.

I think if he does not commit by end of the week it could be 50/50 Memphis LSU. Those seem like the two teams in contention

The thought seems to be that Watford is leaning a bit more towards leaving.

When did this come about? Is that the talk on 247 boards? I mean, Jordy - whom everyone swears has all the inside LSU basketball knowledge - sounds confident he is likely coming back.

He may not, as I think most have been in the boat that he was a 50/50 chance from the beginning anyway. But with how the NBA draft process has played out, I just don't get his rationale for leaving now when he could come back, develop more, and likely be a 1st rounder next year.

The only logical reason to see him staying in the draft, which Smart would have this same reason as well, is that he is worried there won't be a basketball season this year, which would then amount to a loss of a year and potential income b/c he wouldn't be able to show any development anyway and improve his stock for the 2021 draft.

I know a lot of people dont know a ton about Cisse outside of the hype of us getting him, but he might be one of the best shot blockers to come out of high school in a while. That's certainly his specialty and one of the best I've seen. Depending how much he plays next season, he could be a 3+ block a game guy right out the gate with relative ease, even in a major or somewhat major conference.
