Givens will play a lot next season and should be able to let Stewart and Williams play off the ball which is best for them.
I think Givens was a tremendous grab and I'm beyond certain he will be ready to go from day 1. Whether McMahon chooses to play him or not that's up to him. I'm super excited to watch him play. Montverde is an NBA factory and whether or not Curtis is NBA caliber is irrelevant- what matters is that playing under such a program and practicing with and against future NBA players on a daily basis bodes well for his college prospects imo.
However, Stewart is NOT an off-ball player. We saw him being off-ball this year and it was dog shite. Stewart needs the ball in his hands to be productive. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if he transfers. If we go after a PG in the portal, even if we don’t and cook stays, (paired with signing Givens) I just don't see a role for him on the team with so many ball dominant players already in play.

This is my mood going into next season baws:
We ride with Givens all the way baws. I believe he's going to be a 10 and 4 type player from the jump. Praying to god McMahon gives him minutes from the jump.

Cam Carter dropped 21 on us in December. Looked like a baller to me, bring him home.

Not sure if mentioned But LSU reached out to a couple of Big Ten Big men
Sophomore Tarris Reed Jr of the University of Michigan entered the transfer portal after averaging, 9.0 PPG, 7.2 RPG, & 1.4 BPG.
and
Rutgers’ Clifford Omoruyi:
This past season, Omoruyi recorded 10.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and an impressive 2.9 blocks per game, showing his ability as a defender down low. Additionally, shooting the ball 54.9 percent from the field throughout his career, he’s no slouch on the offensive side of the ball.

Omoruyi is probably a longshot, but he would be a program setting pickup.

Yep I figure all the big boys will be after him, but he instantly improve our defense and rebounding from day 1.. probably pretty drastically

On3 just released an article saying we're in the lead to pull Cam Carter out of the portal. I know most in here aren't too high on him... but it was a given that he would be a target since he was born in Donaldsonville. I'll have to look at his tape a bit more but he seems to be a ball dominant guy. I've heard people refer to him as a "black hole".
Regardless, On3 has him listed as the #37 transfer and as a 4*.

I think he would be a great addition to the team.
PPG. 14.6
REB. 5
AST. 2.6
3P% 30.9
FT% 84.0

2.6 APG to 3.0 TO is concerning
39% from field is alright but could be better
quick scouting report after watching some tape:
listed at 6'3'' but plays a lot taller due to decent athleticism and length
not afraid of contact and driving to rim and has a nice layup package (54% at rim 42% of FGA)
decent catch and shoot player, excels in the corners but struggles at wings and top of the arc
led his team in steals last year and seems to be an aggressive defender that uses his length and athleticism to generate turnovers
strong finisher in transition
whips around some nice passes but tends to throw them errantly or get ripped if he overdribbles on the perimeter
not the type of guy to create his own shot at the midrange or three pointer, usually looks to drive with the ball in his hands
plus, he averaged more rebounds than Will Baker despite being 9 inches shorter

I’ve seen from sources on X that St. John’s is the team to beat for Omoruyi. But he would be a great pickup

Here's why:
- Took 12.6 shots to get to 14.6 ppg last season
- Shot under 31% from 3 (and fired up almost 6 per game)
- Averaged more turnovers (3.0) than assists (2.6)
- Shot only 39% from the floor with an eFG% of 45.9%
- Had a 13.3 PER which basically below average
Did average 5 rebounds a game (1.1 offensive) and had just over a steal a game so thats at least a couple positives i guess

Not to defend baker because he was a rough rebounder, but Baker also played 12 minutes less a game which is siginficant.
Over 40 minutes Baker averaged 8.1 boards to Carter's 5.6

I agree with everything you said. His game is very flawed, but he's not a scrub. Would like to see (if he comes here that is) what he would look like in a smaller role. Cause god knows he's not leading us to the promised land as the main guy
His FG% would be a lot better with smarter shot selection. He is very good at finishing around the rim at 52%. If he reduces his shot diet to corner catch and shoots and on ball drives he would be shooting a lot higher percentage.
I mentioned this... I this his best calling card is perimeter D, something that this team struggled with at times.. according to Evan Miya his defensive BPR is 2.21.. just shy of C Jerrell Colbert (a Wade recruit and former LSU tiger)
Compare that to LSU, he would have the best defensive BPR by a longshot. Second highest was Jordan Wright at 1.73.
I think we all need to look at the bigger picture- I don't think Cam Carter is gonna be the lead guy. Just a guy to play D and get some buckets on the other end. IF we can apply the Adam Miller "he needs less shots" "needs a different role" to cope and cope endlessly, we can apply that to Carter until shown otherwise.

I think he's fine to take if we're looking at taking say at least 4-5 out the portal, but we gotta get much bigger talent than that with the other guys if we're going to ever become an NCAAT team.
The sad part is right now even if we dont want him to be a "lead guy" here, at the moment he would definitely be a starter with what we're losing. Obviously still another small handful to grab in the portal though.

One thing I can say is that he will be an improvement from Stewart because he can actually play defense. Carlos needs to hit tPortal soon IMO

Agreed, he would be a piece not so much a cornerstone. If you get him ideally you pair him with a PG that can take the ball out of Carter's hands and set him up more as opposed to him all out creating every time down.
Him being a good defender does help the offensive inefficiencies though.

Because of the nature of the game everyone focuses on offensive numbers first. But it has been proven time and time again you MUST have defense to be a great team. Now, some of this is adjusted a bit with two NCAA Tournament games in the books against solid competition, but of the 16 teams left in the tournament, 11 are in the top 25 defensively. If the numbers hold, when the season is over (for all teams) LSU, for the second straight year, will have been a worse defensive team than offensive team (even though they were equally as bad at both).
So I wouldn't be upset if LSU decides to take some proven defenders in this class. If you are bringing in a guy like Carter to be Adam Miller/Jordan Wright 2.0...guys who can put up big, but inefficient numbers, then that is a problem. But if you are bringing in a good defender who can help supplement the offense a bit that's not necessarily a bad thing.

30% 3 point shooter on a below average kansas state team.
Another average portal get.
Matt cannot recruit and cannot get fans in the seats.
He gone after next season!!!!

Caleb Love was a 30% 3 point shooter, and 38% FG shooter overall on a below average UNC team that didn't make the NCAA Tournament last season. He is the Pac 12 POY for Arizona this season.
I'm NOT saying Carter would have a similar season at LSU...or anywhere else. But to write someone off as a contributor based upon ONE stat is silly. LSU wasn't a bad three point shooting team. It's one of the few things on offense they actually did relatively well. They were terrible defensively and could use help there. Carter has proven he can provide that.
Posted on 3/25/24 at 4:03 pm to Alt26
Comparing Caleb Love is outrageous!
Did you pay attention to how many guys LSU is losing to graduation?
This guy from Kansas State will be a middle of the pack SEC player just like LSU is under Matt.
Ya'll commended Matt for going from 2 wins in the SEC to 9 wins in the SEC.
Celebrating mediocrity is something that UL-Lafayette fans do.
