I love Gaines' game. I just dont see how we can make a roster spot for him unless either Smart declares or Bishop is asked to look around. Think the big will be more important, and I feel pretty good about getting Anselem and O'neal

NCAA allows 13 scholarships, I'm assuming the roster (Scholarship wise) plays out like this.
Point Guard
Jalen Cook
James Bishop
Javonte OR Gaines
Shooting Guard
Cam Thomas
Charles Manning Jr
Wing
Darius Days
Aundre Hyatt
Mwani Wilkinson
Josh LeBlanc
Power Forward
Emmitt Williams
Shareef/JUCO/Grad
Center
Courtese Cooper
Bradley Ezewiro
So if Javonte, Darius, and Emmitt all come back that will leave 1 spot to add to the current class. Could have more spots available if one of them leaves. I'm assuming Watford leaves also. If a spot is available I think Anselem ends up reclassifying. I think in order the most likely to leave are: Watford, Smart, Williams, Days.

Emmitt is definitely gone, and I'd classify Days as a 4, dude is a big body, just happens to fire up some 3's. Doesnt want to be a ball handler so stretch 4 makes sense for him. Getting into pigeonholing positions though is a little pointless these days though because so many guys play so many.
Watford as of now I'd still have as coming back until he proves he's 1st round quality for sure (shows up a lot more more mocks in 1st round). Supposedly his family is saying he wont leave unless they feel he will go in 1st round.
My (Scholarship) roster looks like this as of right now for next year:
Center
FR. Bradley Ezewiro
Forwards
JR. Darius Days
JR. Josh Leblanc
SO. Trendon Watford
SO. Aundre Hyatt
FR. Mwani Wilkinson
Guards
SR. Charles Manning
JR. Javonte Smart
SO. James Bishop
FR. Cameron Thomas
FR. Jalen Cook
Leaves 2 spots open for now. I'd go Gaines and Anselem/O'Neal right now. I dont have Cooper coming back, just see us asking him to look elsewhere. Non-contributor 3rd year in college generally means they are never coming around and this is his 2nd year here, so he's had plenty of time now.
Think there is something to Wade saying he wants another guard (PG), and Gaines fills that role.

That’s a team that can make a legit run in March. Love what Wade has built.

I don't think/see any of EW, Smart, Days, and Watford being definite's either way as of now I was just kinda going off NBA potential.

EW and Javonte declared last season and then pulled out, which I believe you are only allowed to do once (is that correct?).
Either way, expect Watford to follow suit and declare so that he can go through the process and obtain draft analysis. His brother was a 4 year college guy at Indiana, and played professionally overseas and in the D League. So that family knows the ropes. No reason to believe they won't make the best decision with what they have in place.

The rule has changed. It now allows players to put their name out there as much as they want.
It's hard to really guess on many of these guys. I feel like Javonte and Emmitt will go, but I have zero idea why. We just seem to have guys leave when they should not. I've looked at about 10 drafts, most don't have either of them being drafted.
Personally, I think it's about 80% Emmitt goes, 25% Smart goes, 10% Trendon goes. Unless we have a good run in the tourney, Watford won't be able to make enough noise and they want a surefire first round pic.

I agree with that.

Emmitt is telling folks he's leaving, he just had a child recently and wants to make any money. It's not that he's "ready" he's just wanting to go and make money. He has improved dramatically from last season so he will feel he's done enough to make the jump, even though it's extremely unlikely he would be drafted, he will make coin somewhere (G-leauge 2 way contract, overseas).
Smart from what most have said will be back, realizes he isn't close to making the jump yet and has no real reason to leave.
From above sounds pretty accurate with 80% Emmitt (although I would say 95%), 20% Smart (I'd say even lower) and 10% Watford...I'd say 40/60 stay/leave, but he's the biggest wildcard because his is 100% supposedly about draft position come April.

I keep seeing his name in the first round of mock drafts and assuming he'll be gone with the way things go these days.

Can say I've only seen his name on 1 first round mock which was a CBS writer I think...ones that I also have looked at:
Undrafted NBAdraft.net
2nd round NBA Draft room
2nd round Yahoo
2nd round Draft Site
2nd round MyNBAdraft
So seems like most seem to think he's a 2nd rounder right now.

Man Watford is a great player but I can’t see him being a first rounder this year.

I think I am like most LSU basketball fans in the sense that I love having Emmitt on this team and wish he would stay forever. That being said, if he is the only early-entry from this roster than we are going to be scary next year.
Posted on 2/10/20 at 1:48 pm to b rod lsu
He’s also probably the easiest to replace considering the role he’s in. We literally already got his fill with Wilkinson and will probably get another one in Anselem.

Something tells me that Watford will go, regardless of his projection.
Also, if we sign another true PG then that tells us that Smart is probably gone as well. I really hope Smart stays. Bishop hasn't showed us a lot with his limited time and Cook will be coming in as a true freshman.

The talent would definitely be there. But (assuming Williams leave) the two guys with may the biggest intangibles won't be there...Williams and Mays. Williams is the heartbeat of the team. He radiates energy and effort. Many of the plays he makes are simply because he wants it more than anyone on the court. Guys like that have energy that is contagious to their teammates.
Mays is the opposite. Yes, I know he has missed some chances at the end to win games this year (Saturday being the latest one), but he has made a TON of big plays for this team when they absolutely had to have it. He always seems to be the calm during the storm and (though not perfect) has the best situational awareness on the team.

TB, you think we get Gaines if Smart decides to stay? I'm thinking that if Gaines comes that means Smart is out or Bishop will be gone next year.

You're not wrong by any stretch, however I think you will be pleasantly surprised by Leblanc and Thomas.
