Griffin plays at South lake Carrol HS in Texas, Class of 2022

quote:

Griffin Herring (2022, Southlake, Texas) fits the highly projectable category as the young lefthander stands 6-foot-1, 165-pounds with long limbs and a loose, athletic frame. Working exclusively out of the stretch, Herring shows a loose arm stroke through the back and creates his 79-83 mph velocity with relatively low effort out of his hand. Along with the physical projection, Herring’s delivery itself will continue to develop as there isn’t much present gather on his back side no drive to the plate, two elements that’ll only help see an uptick in velocity

I thought players can’t be recruited until September of their Jr year?

Aaron Nola was throwing in the low 80’s and weighed about 145 as a freshman in high school guess we should’ve passed him up too

I don’t think they can offer until September and year. I have a kid next door that’s 15 who has those metrics and is a lefty. He has tremendous command with 3 pitches. His dad said the college scouts have asked about him including Blake Dean, but there is no contact with anyone. At least that’s what I understood.

He’s young and his body hasn’t matured yet. If he’s able to generate that kind of velocity with ease on that frame, it’s inevitable his velocity will go up. You don’t see many meaty guys throwing upper 90s, it’s usually the lanky ones that can whip their arm.

He probably plays against very good competition in his district or however they do it in Texas. Coaches must like what they see in the kid.
