Good article about how Dan Fitzgerald built the Kansas program and focusing on juco guys.

Tyson LeBlanc (LSU Eunice) leads the team in batting average (.337), home runs (16), and RBIs (50)

Told he was released. Too many JRs returning. Love me some Jay, but don’t envy his position in this recruiting environment. Wouldn’t Lawrence be at least a good comparable as a LHer? Definitely interesting.

Any thoughts?

This is all speculation based on a conversation I had about a former SEC coach. The former coach passed up recruiting sons of some of his long time friends just to not put himself in a weird position. Especially if it doesn’t work out for the kid.

If Jay and Joe have a personal relationship because of the marrucci ties to the lsu program, it could be just didn’t want a conflict of interest in some way. I’m not saying that’s the case, but just that it could be unrelated to how talented he thinks the kid is.

Yeah. That's the case with every decommit this time of year. No kid is willingly giving up their spot in May. A little later than now, coaching changes could be in play, but right now it's guys being cut loose.

He will go pro before he goes in the portal.

Yeah, I get the reasoning on maybe why Jay and/or Joe would prefer elsewhere, so I should have used a different comparable.

Any lefty topping out at 91 with a plus offspeed will do. If we’re offering KY’s last commit they deemed the most expendable, is it due to our need for a LHP, or is there more to it?

LHPs potentially on next year's roster:

DJ Primeaux - going into last year of baseball with a couple NCs in his back pocket, does he go somewhere lower to get more mound time for his last year? Wouldn't blame him.
Santiago Garcia - probably pro
Cooper Williams - unreliable
Ethan Plog - unreliable
Danny Lachenmayer - will be back
Bradyn Cupit - pro prospect, seems locked into LSU
Jonah Aase - coming off injury
Colton Christman - seems locked into LSU
Spencer Evans - pro prospect, know nothing of signability
Lucas Nawrocki - possibly OF
Logan Schmidt - no chance
Braxton Beaty - seems locked into LSU

I would say adding another freshman LHP would be a volume play to hope that someone emerges based on numbers. I'd have to think we're going to look in the portal for a lefty though.

Any chance we bring Ryler Smart back?

Has pretty good numbers at Galveston College (no clue what kind of competition he plays).

Actually, as I was typing this out, I looked at more than his raw ERA and discovered he's the luckiest pitcher of all time.

10.1 IP
8 H
15 BB
5 HBP
5 WP
5 K
1.74 ERA

I do not want Ryler Smart back.

Speaking of LHP, I see that Snelling is making his debut today against the Nationals.

This is one of the more insane stat lines that I have ever seen. The guys coming in after him to put out his fires must be electric. Also, this is a great example of why ERA is an overrated stat.

Yeah, 28 base runners (20 for free) in 10 innings and only 2 runs. Not just earned runs, but runs. Wild.

A couple more wishlist portal guys should they enter:

Brayden Martin
Utility/OF- Junior Maryland
.348/.477/.449
19-22 SB
47 BB
18 K

*Checkout that BB/K ratio. That is elite regardless of conference. Last year he hit .319 and had 59 BB to 24 K. Really nice floor.

Pipe dream because he is a top 100 guy for the draft but Evan Dempsey. He is a two way guy from Florida Gulf Coast.
