Clapinksi is still hitting well in the Northwoods League this summer:
Stats
Running a pretty low K rate for a guy who is on the back end of playing probably the most baseball of his life against the best talent he's faced, and catching. It's impressive. Normally you start to see guys wear down around now.

I'm sure he wants to start. With Moore, Evans, Schmidt, and Hood, chances were slim for him as a starter this coming season. I would be surprised if Jay didn't find a lefty to bring in that could extend and/or to compete for starter innings. And all of that isn't even mentioning kids that could make it through the draft and compete.

Well shite. Maybe that means we have someone else coming in

No

I guess the fact we are losing a RHP and not a LHP softens the blow.
Tech pitcher soon?

Mascona says it’s down to state and Arkansas for him. Who knows

Well lsu’s budget for an arm just got bigger, so who knows. Hate this. We def ned another big arm that can go several innings now

It was funny how Johnson treated Paz vs say Aiden Moffett who had almost the same profile. He gave Paz a ton of opportunity but in the end im not sure they are much different.
At the end of the day I think he's probably a reliever with great stuff that you hold your breath on when you have to put him in the game.

Moffett throws 99 into the opposing batters box, Paz at least had a few respectable appearances and was coming back from TJ Lester

I’m not saying we should emulate them, but things like Paz leaving makes me understand Georgia’s mercenary strategy when it comes to recruiting. It’s hard to want to focus on developing from within when your guys can just up and leave with bigger offers. I don’t envy Jay’s job right now

anytime Paz made it through a clean inning, it looked like pure divine luck.
I am a "bet on the stuff guy" but he has a long way to go. Even a guy like Grant Taylor you could see the secondary pitch flashes. Paz just looks like a boring hard thrower with no control to me.

I would not compare Paz and Moffett. Paz is a much better prospect and nobody should have expected much coming off TJ.

Jay made some comments during the season as if he would alter his approach due to somoe portal misses, but at the end of the day, the results said that was just coach-speak. And I am glad it was. Jay has a great approach, just had an unlucky wave of events that led to a less-than-ideal offseason.
It's not easy for sure. But portal is generally safer than development when it comes to players are not immediate contributors.

It should be a relief to us that we do not have to use TJ as a coping mechanism anymore. Paz had no clue where the ball was going. Hard to just say that is because of TJ. Players come back all the time from TJ without drastic swings from their previous forms.

I hate to say it but it's not about showing you have talent, it's about producing results. Paz, Ruckert, and Patrick are all in the same boat. They had ample opportunity and definitely had good moments but their overall production just didn't warrant being guaranteed anything moving forward. Braun and Serna did. That's just this class. You can go back every year. Year 1 statistical production is the career indicator 90% of the time, not talent or ability.

The standard at LSU is win every year. And most of the time, “developing” and winning are counter productive. It’s great when you can mesh the two, but that is extremely difficult in the SEC. And a lot of time it is dependent on the patience of a 19yr old, and we all know they have zero patience.
