Jay was saying he expects only 6-8 to sign I thought that seemed quite optimistic

The more I think about it and the more I look at the list of recruits the more I feel like it ends up being 9-10 guys get drafted and sign. 6 seems extremely optimistic and if 8 happens I think that is still a big win.

It could. There are 13 draft risk. Every year someone will surprise and some will disappoint. Jay doesn't have a crystal ball but he obviously has a good feel for the situation. It's going to be exciting

This is the worst just waiting for the draft to get here. I need some portal news or someone to pull their name from the draft

It's mock draft season. But it's the point where you actually want to read the write ups and not just look at the projections.

ESPN (Kiley McDaniel)
Baseball America
MLB.com

Are the main ones I look at. I still like FanGraphs too, but they don't do as much draft stuff as they used to.

What’s your opinion on overslot?

I don't really have one. I don't read a lot of his stuff because it's generally behind a paywall, and I'm hesitant to add yet another subscription.

I am glad that the local BR media that interview him every year have finally stopped calling him a scout.

I will say the last 2 years have been pretty accurate from Doyle. And I pay for it for draft season and once the July hits I just cancel till next year. Same with BA

We should probably have something from Joe Doyle soon. It's some good info.

I usually go through the emotions every year. We lose guys early and I'm upset. Then when it's over, I'm excited about who we landed.

Of course, I could always be more excited if things go well.

i’m interested in what his list looks like vs the other services/wevsites

I always look at MLB Pipeline because
1. It’s free
2. you can sort the MLB draft tracker by their rankings and see where people are drafted

And I have posted on this before, after the top 50 the numbers get better and better for HS making it to campus.

He was a complete douche during our series with Oklahoma. He stood out for it because he was literally the only one acting the way he was.

Their run essentially started when they benched him, and there are rumors he wasn't welcome back anyway because he's a locker room issue.

He also struck out over 40% of the time in the SEC.

I hope we stay away.

He’s been writing up daily on the prospects I believe. But he’ll probably have a whole one after the combine is over. And a new rankings on July 1st

It’s all relatively consistent across the board. Nobody for the most part if a gigantic upgrade or downgrade on rankings. I’ll post overslots rankings once he drops them again.

Where we really got killed last year was the 4th round.

we had some guys get 3-4-5x their slot value.

Hodges got 1M slot value 772.6k
Sime got 2M slot value 687k
McKenzie got 3m slot value 588.9k

And then Hamilton got 497.5k in the 11th round.

McKenzie got a bigger bonus than the Braves’s first round pick.

The Nats saved 3m on the first overall pick and then gave their next 4 pick 2-2.5m each and then drafted 6 straight college seniors to pay for it.

I get why jay was frustrated.

It will be the 5th round this year.

It's whatever the first round of Day 2 is because that's when the teams have had overnight to organize their board and figure out their money.

ETA: I guess it's the 4th round again this year. I thought they had put the 4th round back on day 1.

Yeah when I look at the rankings for those players and where they got taken. Sime was ranked 86 drafted 111. Hodge 164 drafted 106. Briggs 69 Drafted 127. River 99 drafted 339. The others were pretty similar to rankings and where they went. And looking overall. A lot of the Hs players in general that were ranked in the 100s made it to campuses.
