I'm starting to feel like Briggs McKenzie might be the most important get in this class.
Current lefties: Williams, Primeaux, Anderson, Ware, Brown, Beck. Of that group, Williams is the only one I am confident in contributing next year.
2025 class: McKenzie, Aase and Plog.
Certainly we will bring in some high profile portal arms, but we will still be very thin here. Perhaps some from the current roster come back, like Primeaux for example, or Aase and Plog turn out to be contributors. I would just feel a little better if McKenzie makes it to campus.

We appear to be turning it up a little with Kevin Mebil, the LHP from Barry

I like this guy. Leadoff hitter. Extremely consistent over 2 years. Would be a junior coming in. Wouldn't be a power bat at 3rd, but is a good hitter and can play other infield positions.

Looks like Brian O'Connor is going to be the new Miss State head coach. Wonder if Virginia has any players that might hit the portal (or they may just follow him to Starkville who knows).

They have some talent, but a lot of is draft eligible.
I'm sure they have some guys that will follow. I'm interested in the carousel impact and who Virginia goes after.
ETA: Freshman LHP Thomas Valincius would probably be the most sought after guy in the portal if he entered.

Looking at this list of signees it brings up a question. Will any of these dudes look at Schmidt and be like “no thanks, I’m gonna take my money and run”??? I know his story at LSU isn’t over yet but I feel like no one saw this season playing out like it has. I guess if he comes out next year and crushes then it doesn’t matter.
Also on the other hand guys could look at Curiel and see why LSU would make more sense for them.

Every situation is unique. Schmidt is a BR kid who dreamed of playing for LSU. If he were from CA, he would have signed. Also, look at Anderson's numbers from his freshman season. Schmidt is far from done here.
Curiel is a draft-eligible sophomore, which helped get him here, but it also shows high school recruits that you can boost your stock by coming to LSU.
Several of these guys on the list are going to sign. That is the nature of things.

Schmidt is far from done and I think he will be really good with a little seasoning.
I think the lights got a little too big for him as a freshmen, and not every freshmen is ready.
but his big issue has been walks and he has 11 in 2 innings of SEC play vs 9 in 28.2 IP out of conference. makes me think he probably just needs to settle down a bit.
he reminds me of thatcher
hurd. when he’s throwing the breaking ball for strikes he’s really good.

Would be an A+ hire all things considered, but damn I feel like every time I watch Virginia in the postseason they are leaving out a bullpen arm waaaay too long and blowing games. Thankful that Jay has an amazing feel for pinch-hitting & our bullpens.
Also, is it me or do people underrate Butch Thompson? seemed like MSU fans wouldn't have been thrilled with that hire. Skip Johnson from OU as well to a lesser extent.

Seems like he could play 2nd and fit the profile
Posted on 5/29/25 at 12:37 pm to LSU=Champions
I feel like he'd be better off staying IF he thinks he can prove to play any position well. He was truly awful on the field his freshman year but no doubt with his athleticism he should be able to play well at several spots. And since then he's not proven anything fielding since then, he's rated that high just from his bat and physical ability.
Jay said he could be a future Golden Spikes winner and loves him so I'd think we'd offer him some good NIL. Now with players guaranteed 75% of their slot if they are a top 300 prospect by MLB (and give their medicals), he could potentially have plenty of money to gain.
