Thanks D2 Colorado to LSU would be seemingly a huge leap but Gervaise managed something similar

The kid from Colorado Christian is only hitting .299 this season overall, just had a ridiculous week last week hitting 5 HRs with a double in 4 games. He did this against a team that's 4-28 in their conference, so a really really bad D2 team.
Not to take anything away, just an incredible short run for him against a terrible D2 team.

I think there is some really good D2 competition, and players, out there. But they're in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and especially Florida.

Pretty much the perfect JUCO baseball candidate. Multi sport guy in high school, super athletic but raw, needing at bats.
And the Texas JUCO league is strong and a great place to get that experience.
On the other JUCO recruit, Ethan Plog's season numbers look pedestrian, but the trend is great. He's gotten way better as the season has gone along and it looks like he's pitching today in the regional playoffs. Should be able to stream here at 2pm central: LINK

We're starting to see some portal entries trickle in. Stanford has a bunch of guys listed as Seniors hitting the portal. Some of them dealt with injuries in their career, some of them just didn't play as a freshman. It looks like we're going shopping there.

Project, why don’t we go after as many Louisiana guys anymore? Is it a Jay thing or did the talent in Louisiana shrink
It is a Jay thing. Like when Saban went to Alabama and tried to raid Louisiana.
Jay likes the west coast guys and playing in the SEC is more attractive than it has ever been for them.
The idea of what an LSU recruit is has changed. It's Not the state. And when a kid elects to sign in the draft, their spot is going to be taken by a transfer, not the in-state prospect that was waiting for an offer.

well lately the recruits that can compete immediately have been from Cali and texas with a little florida sprinkled in.
Jay is still recruiting Louisiana hard but he isnt going to take great HS players that are not college ready right now in HS. Im talking from a physical standpoint.
PM used to take fringe guys, let them sit in program for 3 years and get bigger/stronger.....cant do that now. Be ready to play as a freshman or go somewhere else and transfer.

Bored at work this morning, so for those of you interested, I have been crunching some numbers for next year.
I see 11 players on current team that are 100%-95% to return.
There is a big group of about 22 players that are maybe yes, maybe no. I'm thinking only about 6 returns from that group if we go down to a 34 man roster.
There are 7 more that are 100%-95% gone.
From the 20 players listed on page one of this thread, I think about 14 make the roster. The others either redshirt or go pro.
That puts us at 31 for next year. I don't think we will take more than about 5 players from the portal. I'm lumping our two JUCO's on page one with the freshman but in reality, they are more like portal additions.
Obviously, there are still a lot of unknowns at this point but I'm not expecting a big portal class. I believe we will need another MIF and some lefty pitching from the portal. Along with any impact players that you can grab.

I dont think there's any real scenario we have a big portal class with roster size cut down to 34 and all the incoming guys we look like we will be having. I think the key will be to find 5-6 really good guys out of the portal for most part and not depth pieces as much. Let the younger freshmen be the depth pieces.
Could have a really really young team next year, depending on those portal adds.
I do think 1 of the reasons TN has dropped off some this season is they have 21 TRUE freshmen on their roster, with an additional 6 more redshirt freshmen. That's 27 guys who have never seen any real college action going into this season, which is an absolute ton.
Now they DO have like 50 something players on their roster somehow (A ton of the freshmen are redshirting off the roster I suppose), but still 27 guys with no college experience coming into this season is a lot of youth.

Don't see much in this guy, infield depth type of add. That is, if the roster stays at 40. If rosters are reduced we will have a relatively small portal class consisting of high impact starters.

I think Ebel has a higher floor, but Young has a much higher ceiling.
Young could come in with Jordan Thompson defensive skills and Cade Arrambide's offensive skills and leave with Stephen Milam's defensive skills and Jared Jones' offensive skills.

I'm assuming you're just pulling guys that are followed by Jay/Jordan on twitter?
The Guy kid is interesting. pre-season big south pitcher of the year. Had a shoulder impingement injury, got a medical redshirt, and entered the portal.
Twitter Link
He dominated the Appalachian league the last 2 summers, but (as you can see) was pretty awful this year. I wonder how much of that struggle was due to injury. He also hit decently well in the Appy league 3 years ago, but hasn't had many at bats since. The last reading I can find on his velo is 89 in high school 4 years ago. He has a tweet where he says he's 93-95, T97.
