I wonder what the Lemonis news does to the State roster and recruiting class. A lot of guys we at least kicked the tires on. One of them was a recent JUCO commit from PRCC that's up in the triple digits. Patrick Spencer.

wonder if we go after Hayes Holton hard now. kid is a stud imo.

I was coming here to float the idea of Ace Reese.

One of the guys that recruited him to Houston out of high school was Ross Kivett, who moved back to Tennessee since they opened up more paid assistant roles (he was the volunteer there before).

So there is a connection there.

On a side note about Houston, I wouldn't be shocked to see them make a change at HC. Maybe they'll hire the guy that Rice should have, Pat Hallmark.

I'm surprised Ebel is below Moss, and it looks like McKenzie has indeed made a huge leap on boards. Sime also a little lower than I thought.

Not as promising as I would have hoped. On ESPN a guy released a Top 65 and it only included Fauske a couple weeks ago. No Young, Moss, Ebel or McKenzie in his list.

I will say nice to see Serna seems like he's more than likely making it in here unless his number isnt that high. That would make 2 years in a row we've brought in our top catcher, which is something we struggled with for years fighting with the draft and those guys.

Still a ways to go to find out who goes pro and who comes here (and stays on current team), but I get the feeling with the size of this class, and the fact the roster are being severely dwindled down to 34 players; we will use the portal to be ultra selective. It's not going to be double digit players coming from there. Probably not more than 5-7 guys if I had to guess.

I wonder who will get the pitcher from Florida Atlantic in the portal.

Project, do you think we push hard for Holton now to decommit from State?

I hope so. I was surprised he committed there in the first place.

Baseball America expanded their draft rankings to 400 today.

Fauske keeps rising. McKenzie keeps rising in opinion, though not in these rankings. Sime made 40+ spot jump to get into the top 100. Dean Moss dropped 40+ spots to spot 100. Paz, Hamilton, Ricken keep dropping. Clauss dropping, William Patrick moving up slightly.

Landon Hodge, Mason Braun, Zac Cowan, and Conner Ware enter the rankings for the first time.

23 current or committed players in the top 400. Plus at least 3 transfers out.

Would it be fair to compare Moss to Duplantis in terms of play style? Some of the clips I've seen and writeups I've read remind me a ton of him. Contact first lefty with great bat control, solid but not great speed, solid but not great defense, not much power. No noodle arm which is a positive.

Swing path and follow through remind me a ton of Curiel, simply the visual aspect. Almost a Japanese style lefty follow throw - like this

I kind of like Reagan Ricken's profile. He has good size and tools. He plays QB in HS, it will be interesting to see how he develops when concentrating on one sport.

Not certain he had a commitable offer

One of the pitchers under consideration for the '26 Class

The only offer in that class at any position from LA is Cupit, and he has been committed for a long time

Is it a down year in state or are we just taking our time on those guys?

ETA: This is a recent blurb on Holton from Baseball America:

quote:

Holton is an athletic righthander with more strength projection left in his 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame. He already has high-end velocity for his age with a fastball up to 96, and once he fills out, he could eventually throw 100 mph. He has the upside to be a riser on the 2026 rankings if he’s able to dial in more consistent strikes.

Probably this

Along with all of the other higher velo/ spin rate guys

Was told there are no position players on the radar in that class from LA

3 pitchers on the radar

34 roster spots has as much to do with it as the level of talent

Gotta think Moffett is in line for more innings with their injuries.

Cam Johnson hasn't thrown in 18 days, and that was 12 pitches. Has thrown 36 pitches since March 18.

Kling hasn't hit a homer since April 11.

Encouraging results from Plog.
