That hurts. A lot of folks still don’t realize he was the same age as most true freshman. Posted a .986 OPS as a left handed hitting catcher. He’s going to be one of the biggest targets in the portal.
Isn’t he from Tallahassee? I wonder if he moves back closer to home.

We gave him every chance in the world. We tried him in the outfield over actual outfielders. We kept putting him behind the plate despite him seemingly never trying to improve his defense. And he still couldn't hit in conference.
If he doesn't want to show some loyalty to the program that showed him much more than he earned, we will be better off without him.

He's caught 24 games in 3 college seasons (including summer seasons). 20 of those were as a freshman in 2022.

Bingo! Love the kid but this only hurts in terms of depth. I have confidence that Jay is going to find and upgrade back there.
Im not sure any kid who wants to leave ends up being that big of a loss. A school like LSU should only have kids who welcome competition on the roster.

Hernandez played 3 games at catcher last year, 1 game at catcher in 2023 and 20 in 2022. I guess him and Frey could potentially figure in the plans there, but probably not ideal.

There is no way that Bear Jones can increase his draft stock as a R/R 1B.
But if he gets behind the plate and proves he can play there in pro ball, his value would SKYROCKET.
That's what needs to be sold to him. Not as an everyday catcher, but at least a couple times a week.
