Interesting. Seems to be a similar profile to Trevor Schmidt, who would have a role similar to Jones as a 1B/DH type. I guess Schmidt and/or Conrad could play OF, but what does that mean for the other OFs.

Honestly I think they follow anyone who enters the portal that was a starter somewhere & had some success

They do seem to cast a wide net. That's why it was newsworthy (to me) when Tutko started following a guy and then when Jay did.
I think Tutko gets the video stuff straightened out ahead of any visits so they can show how they plan to use/improve someone if they come here.

Definitely a wide net. I have been keeping up with the names of guys being followed and I am up to 34 portal names already. Some of them to me have no business coming to LSU but are still followed. I think Josh Jordan jumps on them early for research purposes and if minimal interest is there he follows. If you see multiple coaches on someone then that seems to be the names to monitor more. Especially if it is Tutko and Jay.

I never really asked my Tennessee source. They had a team chemistry issue on that 2023 team. Denton ended up being one of the leaders that helped pull things together and get them moving in the right direction that year after starting SEC play slow. I think he kept waffling on his desire to stay in school or go pro and they had a chance at Amick and made the decision for him.

Articles I read said he planned to go pro but he went undrafted and that screwed up his plans. By then, Amick had already committed and then unspecified personal reasons were cited for why he didn't join in team practice. Weird situation for a guy who stepped up big when UT needed him.

I’m not a huge fan of Denton but it seems like recruiting wise and portal wise, if you can take a dude that didn’t get drafted from Tennessee and somehow get him drafted that is a win for the good guys and would be an excellent selling point for CJJ.
We have a spot open for a veteran 3b and if I remember correctly he is a switch hitter. I could pull for him for a year I suppose.
