My son played against Konner Griffin last night. 2nd time we've played them this year. Tons of scouts at each game of course. I talked to 2 of the Cardinals (they have the 6th pick and a legit shot at him) scouts for a while last night. I figured Griffin would never set foot on LSU's campus, but they weren't so sure. Said his dad was pushing him toward college. Take that for what it's worth.
Also he is a freakishly good baseball player. Lots of D1 talent on the field and he just stands out. We have struck him out twice tho

He's still I'll see it to believe it if it happens there because in the end someone will be wanting to draft him very high and give him at least $5M if I had to guess and thats a ridiculous amount of money to pass up to go to college. That being said, Dylan Crews is a helluva example of someone who passed up A LOT ($2M-$3M?)of money out of high school to turn around and 3 years get a $9M pay day instead. Also sometimes kids just want that college experience...but still a guy like Griffin is going to be in the super longshot category with how much MLB teams will be throwing his way come the draft.
I'd almost feel bad for Frey/Ruddell, guys like that if Griffin and Curiel make it to campus. They will be like I cant ever get a break to get in the OF

I think we’ve had several kids in the past that legitimately wanted to be on campus, but it just made no since. He strikes me as the next one. Might have a chance if he was a late 2nd round pick, but he’s probably going top 10

I don't post about players we're not connected to very much. I just saw a kid on twitter from Cisco JC throwing 98-99 and touching triple digits. Kyrin Leblanc is a RHP from St Martinville that plays at Cisco currently. I saw some indication he may be committed to Texas State, but I didn't see any reference to it on his Twitter.
He's still figuring out how to harness it, 19 Ks 9 BBs in 11 innings. But that's a big arm.
Kyrin Leblanc - NJCAA
Looks like we’re on him now.

The St Louis Post Dispatch did a profile on Brady Kehlenbrink ahead of the local high school season starting this week.

Kehlenbrink posted a 5-1 record as a junior with a 3.11 ERA in 27 innings pitched. He led the Patriots with 59 strikeouts, and his strikeout average of 15.3 was third best in the area behind Winfield's Colin Morse (17.71) and Timberland's Adam Hachman (16.06).
quote:
After Kehlenbrink committed to LSU, former pitching coach Wes Johnson — now the head coach at the University of Georgia — asked Kehlenbrink if he knew what made him so good on the mound.
"I thought it was because I throw hard, but he's like no," Kehlenbrink said. "That's when he brought up the IVB (induced vertical break) and it being so hard."
While at multiple camps in front of scouts, Kehlenbrink discovered the IVB on his four-seamer had over 20 inches of vertical break.
According to Baseball America, a pitcher who can reach 20 inches or more of IVB is considered to have elite movement.

I didn't realize it until the end but I saw Konnor Griffin in the stands at the Miss State game last night in Biloxi. I noticed a bunch of little kids asking for his autograph.

Baseball America podcast I just listened to mentioned William Schmidt as potentially the first high school righthander drafted this year.

who are the power hitters coming in

Hard to say who exactly all will make it in but:
- John Pearson has good pop, 15 doubles, 8 triples, 7 home runs last season
- Kale Fountain is an absolute unit at 6'5 230 and set the career HR record in Nebraska as a JUNIOR with 26 (still playing entire senior season to add to that)
- Ryan Costello's high school pop numbers dont jump off the page at you but he's 6'3 215 and could really add more pop this season as a senior and once he gets here
And not that either of these guys will make it to campus but Cade Arrambide and Konnor Griffin have lots of power. Arrambide has power to all parts of the field which is very rare in high school. Both those guys are well built too (210-215+)

Joe Doyle interviewed Schmidt a few days ago, and Schmidt is talking like the high first Rd picks do when asked about college

Juco shortstop to keep an eye on: Caden Powell from Seminole State in Oklahoma.

Also seems like the 2 juco guys tanner reaves and Blaise priester have some power

For sure with both of them as well. Reaves I'm a bit worried about because his numbers have fallen off a cliff compared to last season so far where had 22 doubles and 20 home runs then. So far coming up on halfway through this year as compared to last he has just 7 doubles and 4 home runs and his average has fallen from .422 to .281 and his slugging from .783 to .494
Blaise's numbers look solid so far this season so not worried there, but that is quite the dropoff for Tanner Reaves. I kind of saw him as a guy who could compete for 2B/3B but that bat needs to come around again for him. Also looks like he got moved to DH/OF this season.

Yeah I'm afraid this draft is gonna hit us pretty hard.

Reaves 28ks in 25g isn’t great (25k% rate)

I had originally thought they’d get the LA kids to campus except for maybe Victorian. Now he & Schmidt are in question.
Still the class is so good even the secondary guys are strong. And more kids are coming to college anyway. Anything can happen
