Looks like I was wrong all over lol. He made 18 pitching appearances and played 1B (34g), 2B (13) and 3B (2).

There haven’t been many substantial ones in the 2000s
Will Harris in 2006:
- 19 IP
- 202 ABs
Chad Jones in 2009:
- 6.2 IP
- 35 ABs
Austin Bain in 2018:
- 21.2 IP
- 228 ABs

Bain is pretty substantial. His season offensively was something

Clay Harris was a 2 way player for a little bit. Crazy Will pitched in the league for a decade. Clay was a dog & generally gauged as the better player

I forgot about Bain. Stud.

So none of you whipersnappers remember Adrian Antonini?
He was Paul Skenes 1.0. C/RP

In 2011 the NFL started paying their rookies slot value in the draft.
Would you guys be in favor of MLB doing the same? It would simplify things for MLB teams. It would allow seniors to get paid, which would actually increase leverage for Juniors. More seniors would be better for college teams.

MLB kind of already does this. NIL should theoretically offset the lack of senior draft compensation

I remember Antonini well, but I don't remember him doing both at the same time. I remember him strictly catching until his senior year. In his senior year, he pitched out of the bullpen and may have got a few (less than 5) pinch hits in that season.
Funny story about him pitching. I think his senior year was 1994 and of course, this was before cell phones, internet and message boards so very few people knew he was going to pitch that year. I went to the old Winn Dixie Showdown in the Superdome to watch LSU play. He brings Antonini in the game from the bullpen and Skip is standing right behind him during warmups. I can't remember if it was the first warm up pitch, but Adrian bounces one about 50 feet and it goes to the back stop. Skip is standing there with his hands on his hips and just shakes his head in disgust.

Another funny story, I looked up his stats (of course there were none), except that the Phillies drafted him in the 16th round as a relief pitcher lol

quote:To the poster asking about Bain doing both, I'm almost positive he came into a game from the infield to close a game. Maybe a midweek game? What a Bizzare player. Average-above average pitcher who had to hit out of neccessity. Had the worst swing in American yet led the SEC in doubles.
Bain

Did Nick Storz ever get an AB?

Stanfield also made the Cape all star team for the West division.

I wonder if LSU will steal more bags than normal under Jay next season.
Seems like Jay would rather not risk the out, but it also seems like LSU will have at least 3 very capable base stealers.

I really hope we can keep Larson. I have zero inside info, but I’m not sure where he fits in with the current roster
