He should change the name he goes by to William and see if a team screws up their draft pick thinking he's the other one.

No not you Bay. The guy who keeps bagging on Larson.
My redshirt thing is more from the players perspective. It’s not that you won’t ever be good, but it’s not likely the path to get playing time & prove yourself. Especially in the transfer portal era. As you can see, they will keep adding guys & stacking the deck no matter what. And the guys they add had the benefit of actually playing in real games, giving lsu the ability to scout them.
I’m not saying Schmidt will play. But the kid looks good on paper, as most of them do. I love a hot take but I want to wait & see

To your point, I think the staff is adjusting too.
Daniel Arambula was not appreciably different from Austen Roellig. We took Roellig and redshirted him, now he's at Utah. We cut Arambula loose to let him sign with San Diego State, bypassing the redshirt year he was inevitably headed for and freeing up the resources (roster spot, time, etc) to be used on guys who have a better chance of contributing in 2025.
I think that's a little more toward what Jay meant by team vs program thing. Just meaning that every guy on the roster every year has a chance to contribute rather than truly developmental guys.
Even though I think Yamin and TSchmidt are more likely 2026 contributors, they can still contribute in 2025.

My roster count has 25 position players and 18 pitchers.
Does anyone have a 'current roster' based on who we expect to make it to campus? I tried to count and I was at like 41 or 42 so I know I am missing someone

I have 43 as well. On quick check I think our lists are the same but I have Thompson listed under pitchers. So 19 pitchers and 24 position players.

Baseball recruiting was always about taking a bunch of guys and cutting a bunch loose.
Not every 5* is a player and some 3-4* players turn out to be awesome.
Classes are full of guys like Will Stafford, Austin Rowling, Zach Arnold, Farmer Abernathy and you take them because it’s not always the top guys in your class who are the best.
Gavin’s Dugas, Griffin Herring, Eric Walker and Ryan Eaces weren’t the top prospects in their classes and came in and did some great things.

I don't need a lecture on how baseball recruiting has always worked.
Especially from someone that doesn't know the circumstanced under which Zach Arnold was recruited and signed.
ETA: Also, Dugas, Eades, and Herring were absolutely top prospects out of high school.

I didn't have Thompson and Cooley in my count b/c they were removed from the 2024 roster page during the season with the other redshirts. I remembered to add Lape back, but not them. I'll post mine now that it's updated.

I think you may be right with him ending up as a pitcher, but he worked a decent amount last fall as a 2 way. So for now I kept him and Jake Brown on the position side that has 2 way potential and moved Lape and Guidry to PO. I think we will probably get a better idea of the plan with those 2 way guys in the fall.

This is based On Project's OP and the roster from last year. I might have some classifications messed up but I started this to see where we stood on returning players vs. new faces.

With Stanfield coming in really doesnt matter anymore but I still would have loved to get that guy. Will be interesting to see how he does at UNC but he looks like a good one.

Anyone else think this baseball roster on paper, looks like a complete team. This staff is set up to be a great weekend/ tourney team!

I think it looks like a pretty damn good roster. Would be nice to have more LHP but man that’s a deep staff.

Agree. Also, I wouldn't be upset to see what Brown can do from the mound. We have more dudes in the OF than we have LHPs.

Jay could potentially add to the roster through portal so he may not be finished
If Cooley and Thompson couldn't make roster last year I think it may be tough on them to make it this year so a little surprised they didn't at least enter the portal to give them more options
Lape was coming off high school injury so that was reason for his redshirt
I don't know how healthy Woods was last year but he is playing summer ball and will see how he does in the fall scrimmages, he was hitting mid 90's at Bama

Defense will be solid, no matter who plays where.
Pitching will be really deep. They just have to sort out the roles.
We have to replace a boatload of RBIs between Tanks and Travinski. I'll just wait to see how that goes. On paper, we have some juice.
Jones and few other guys need to step up as leaders, too. Good teams always have good leadership.
