Anyone else find it odd that Grahovac and LaViolette are still in the portal? If they love the Earley hire so much what’s the hold up?

I wanted to piggyback off what Project posted a week or 2 ago now that Loer has entered the portal to see how much more work is needed on the pitching side.
We carried 21 pitchers last year if you count Shores and Noot. Woods was injured most of the year. 14 pitchers got double digit innings. In his press conference Jay alluded to possibly using less players for more innings (don’t remember the exact quote). But below are the 21 pitchers we carried and their innings. Below that is who I have projected to be on the roster next year (if we are lucky enough to get Herring and Ulloa back). I expect we would carry around 20 pitchers again.
2024 PITCHERS AND INNINGS
1. 91.2 - Holman
2. 83.0 - Jump
3. 50.1 - Herring
4. 44.0 - Hurd
5. 43.0 - Ackenhausen
6. 38.1 - Anderson
7. 29.2 - Little
8. 27.2 - Dutton
9. 26.0 - Coleman
10. 24.1 - Guidry
11. 24.1 - Loer
12. 23.1 - Hellmers
13. 23.1 - Ulloa
14. 17.2 - Moffett
15. 9.0 - Bucknam
16. 9.0 - Johnson
17. 4.2 - Bronzini
18. 3.2 - Primeaux
19. 1.2 - Woods
20. 1.0 - Noot
21. 0.0 - Shores
—--------------------
TOTAL 575.2
POSSIBLE PITCHERS RETURNING
1. 50.1 - *Herring, LHP
2. 38.1 - Anderson, LHP
3. 24.1 - Guidry
4. 23.1 - *Ulloa
5. 3.2 - Primeaux, LHP
6. 1.2 - Woods
7. 1.0 - Noot
8. 0.0 - Shores
—-------------------
TOTAL 142.2 (difference of 433 innings)
9. 110 - Cowan
10. 78.0 - Hayden
11. 70.2 - Meyers
12. 70.0 - Sheerin
13. 30.0 - Dorsey
—------------------------
TOTAL 358.2 (portal innings added)
14. Rizy
15. Ware, LHP
16. Gonzalez
17. Victorian?
18.
19.
20.
If Herring and Ulloa return (which is a big if), and Schmidt and Bateman are drafted, we probably still need to add 3 portal pitchers. I think we reasonably need to add 4-5 portal/JUCO pitchers to get to 20 pitchers if we hedge for the draft (Hayden is a draft risk as well).
Looking at it from an innings perspective is more difficult as we should get significantly more innings from Shores, Noot and Woods as well as Ware and a few freshmen. I wouldn’t count on 110 from Cowan or 75 from Meyers, but they should have big roles.
Also it is worth noting if Herring returns and Ware is not drafted we would have 4 LHP in the group above. If Herring and Ware are drafted we would only have Anderson and Primeaux from the left side.
Conclusion: I think we still need to add 3-5 portal arms, with 1-2 being lefties.

I’m sure Tony V is in their ear with a sizable NIL deal and the allure of that highschool park they play in

Paul Gervase brother is in the portal. He walked 11 in 4 innings last year but in the summer has only walked 1 in 3.

howd you know that P? that is impressive

Mr Gervase is the champion of making tall arse pitchers

There are still a lot of unknowns with the pitchers. Hayden is also a draft risk. I think Ulloa will go pro. I don't think you accounted for Thompson and Lape that redshirted last year. Also there is Evans from the 2025 class that will probably pitch. Who knows what Victorian will do. We also have the possibility of redshirting some 2025 guys. A lot of moving parts still but we have some wiggle room to add more pitchers.
Infield is a little more interesting. If we had a stud SS, I think Braswell goes pro. If we don't add a SS, we will probably offer Braswell a NIL deal to stay. Corner infield is crowded, especially if Jones returns. Yamin, Ferguson, Reaves, Hogg, JUCO Schmidt, Costello, John Pearson and we are looking to add another in the portal. I guess we could redshirt here as well.

I know with all the baggage the hype has died down, but if Victorian makes it to campus that’s a big time arm no?
Posted on 6/30/24 at 7:43 pm to TooncesLeftNut
It is. If he didn’t have that issue at barbe I feel like he’d be drafted pretty high
Posted on 6/30/24 at 7:53 pm to WJP23
Why does list only have a couple of guys listed in bold?
Posted on 6/30/24 at 8:06 pm to Le Tenia
The bolded players indicate new movement since the last update. Either they are new to the list or they newly committed elsewhere.

I think best case week keep 2 of 3 and more likely one of those 3. With Lape and Thompson and keeping 1 of the 3 major draft risks, I still think we need to add 3 portal arms.
Just an exercise to keep me entertained until the next Tiger drops

I wonder if former LSU assistant Eddie Smith replaces former LSU assistant Jason Kelly at Washington. Smith is from Seattle and played juco ball in the area. He’s had some decent success at UVU considering where they were when he got there.

Vic may get to LSU after all just do to numbers. Never thought it possible.

Great post to show just how gutted the staff has become. Incredible amount of roster turnover.

I believe Casan Evans will make it to campus and he will pitch at least early on. His stuff is as electric as anyone in the 24 class . He’s a good position player but I could see him contributing early as a pitcher. He is a starter type but with the movement of his fastball and secondary stuff I see him as a possible late inning reliever or closer next year.

Casan Evans

Vic may get to LSU after all
We were at a Showcase event in LC a few weeks back. Games were spread around all the local high schools. One of the HS assistants was running the tent at one of the schools. I asked him if he knew anything about the LV situation and he said that he knew the kid well and that he had been given a list of things that he was required to do and he had not missed one day of any of it.
I take that to assume he will be at LSU unless the draft still comes calling early.
