We will see what happens when the portal finally opens next Tuesday, but there will be guys on the market like that.

We have to replace two weekend starters, plus hopefully find a third one.

We have some candidates on the roster and in the class currently, but we went into last fall with 6 potential weekend starters and right now we have 2.5 (one of which wasn't in that original 6).

We are still seeing effects of the pandemic shut down on scouting, plus roster log jams pushing talented guys to smaller conferences. There are multiple freshmen out there as friday night guys in competitive conferences. We may find a couple on our roster next year.

It is sorely needed. I'd give my left arm for an AJ Labas to start on Sundays for this team.

We got a roster full of "upside" guys. Jay needs to bring in kids with command that know how to pitch

They will continue to go after these types of guys. All coaches in every sport wants a prospect that has elite talent for them to coach up.

Agreed. Except they've been really bad at coaching up guys with 'stuff'.

Unfortunately if it is between the ears problems for the kids no amount of coaching will help until they get over the mental part themselves. I believe that is what you see from some like Little and Hurd. Hopefully we are seeing Hurd get over that mental part recently.

Couple of portal names on the radar, grad transfers I think.

RHP Luke Russo - Eastern Michigan - baseball reference
OF/1B Luke Olson - New Mexico baseball reference

Russo has been a starter and has good strikeout numbers.

Olson was at Kentucky at some point and has connections to our new trainer.

Fidel Ulloa

They asked Jay who was someone that doesn't get talked about much but could have a real impact. Ulloa was mentioned.

I can't remember. It was an interview somewhat recently. He mentioned some HS commits as well but Ulloa was the one that caught my attention

LINK

I found it. Let's see if I linked correctly but it is an interview with David Folse on youtube "Jay Johnson sits down to talk about 2023 lsu baseball recruiting class. The question is asked around the 7:15 mark.

He mentions the infielders than Mitchell in the OF before Ulloa.

On a side note, I just noticed youtube had a video titled Cameron Johnson hits 100 mph.

Badmaev BRef stats

He'll be 24 next year. Looks like it took him a bit to find his stride, which isn't uncommon for guys that big. Stats are impressive.

How does he even have any eligibility left? Redshirt a year and covid year? Next year he would be one of the few covid seniors left I would guess?

Yeah, he got a medical in 2019, then the COVID year.

He's been at Tarleton his whole career so when you look at his profile it mentions games from when they were D2.

ETA: Both Jordan and Tutko are on Badmaev now. Visit incoming?

ETAA: I know he will be a draft sweat, but we may have some genuine interest from Carlos Rey.

It seems like this kid, and Mitchell aren't even worth watching.

Who after these two are the big draft sweats in the 23 class?

I did see that Johnson had some type of elbow tendonitis that might drop his stock a little. I doubt it but something to keep an eye on. Supposedly nothing structural so if he throws before the draft then I would expect him to get taken by someone in the top 2 rounds easily. Question I guess would be his number money wise and if he sticks to it. That said I think his number would have to be north of 2-2.5 mil to come close to a shot at him.
