In HS ball and lower, it still pays to put the ball in play, put pressure on the defense, make them field it/throw it/catch it. NOBODY does this on the HS level better than Barbe, Glenn will use the bunt game/small ball at any time to grind out a win.

At the MLB level, the game has evolved much more due to the velocities/pitching, better defense, making it harder to get a hit. They have shifted to more of an "all or nothing" approach, resulting in lower BA, more K's, and relying more on the big flies. While I am not a fan of this, analytics have taken over pro sports, and if you do not keep up with the changes, they will pass you by.

glen only does that at certain times and situations based of stats of those kids in the field. 95% of the time its an auto out 10u and above

like the old saying goes, if your offensive strategy relies on others making errors, what happens when they stop making them? this is why the big field is such an equalizer.

glen is extremely smart about when he does it.

I will be travelling when the transfer portal opens up for baseball. I won't be able to update on the guys we're connected to early on, at least not regularly. I think there are enough people who were around last year though that know where to look for updates.

Remind me again when that is. Is it once the postseason selections are made and they have until July 1st?

Yeah, I went back and read an old article on D1 to get the date and I'm pretty sure it's 5/30 that it opens up.

ETA: I think it's a 45 day period, so I don't know if 7/1 is the deadline anymore.

You’d have to ask that oaf coaching third in College Station. I don’t think the old staff ever really looked at him.

On a different note, Trey Cehajic committed to Tulane tonight.

Stovall was a late bloomer. By the time he was on the radar their recruiting class was probably full.

He was well known on the travel circuit. Cain didn’t recruit him at all, didn’t think he would make it to college. He was projected from late first to possible comp pick.

Saw him at an event in Georgia the summer before his junior year. That was the summer he put his name out there! That kid grew leaps and bounds that summer and beyond.

are you seriously asking why paul and staff recruited certain players or didnt? because just asking just to ask becasue none of us really understood Pauls strategy last few years expect the strategy was....exert least amount of effort possible.

pretty much the opposite of Jays approach and thats why its been so refreshing.

paul also didnt want to try and compete against the draft. that was pre nil but he still wasnt about that life.

Peter Storjohann just committed to UCSB

ETA: if a few more from that list I made come off the board, I will redo the list in a new post. So far it’s Cehajic and Storjohann.

You have forgotten more Barbe Baseball and youth baseball coaching than I will ever know. Strength and conditioning too. It's not necessarily about relying on others to make mistakes as it is about putting pressure on the other team, but I get your point.

I only know there is no injury. He started pitching so late this year that he is still trying to figure out his routine and recovery. He is having to do now what the others where doing in the fall but much quicker.

no i agree, and that is what makes glen so good at it and ftr i dont know that much about barbe baseball. i didnt go there and my kids wont but i am around the program some. but not an expert at all on that.

glen is really good though, dunno if its from the crazy amount of expierence or just some crazy feel he has for the game on when to bunt and put that pressure. he tends to pick the right times.

im not against bunting if thats what it takes and its a must win situation and the other team sucks at it. i do think bunting a ton though can stunt development.

We recently picked up a commitment from Zion Theophilus, a 2025 RHP from archbishop Moeller in Ohio.

He was committed to Duke at one point.
