I absolutely loved him last year. He played better defense this year, but the bat took a step back. I think he would be a great pickup for Jay to elevate into a high draft pick.

A lot to like with Denton. Fielding, hitting, and SEC experience.

Thatcher Hurd is the big prize I'm waiting on as well. These other guys with potential or guys that pitched well in their lower tier conferences (but don't have the overall talent to be high mlb picks) are certainly nice. Talking about a top 5 overall pick in 2024 with Hurd though. In conversation for #1 overall. Totally dominant during his freshman season @ UCLA before non arm injury (though an injury to be concerned about obviously when talking spine). He's got 2 more years to pitch. Would likely be our Friday night ace for 23 and 24.

do you feel that if he got healthy and made strides in this league that he would be welcomed back and could possibly be a contributor?

Pineda was Baylor's SS and leadoff hitter this year.

I guess, but I don't know whose idea it was for him to hit the portal in the first place. If it was his, it means he sees that playing time might be tough to come by and wants to go somewhere he can showcase his talents.
ETA: He's really young for his class. If he goes somewhere and puts up good numbers and good peripheral metrics (exit velo, etc), he could be on the draft radar of a model-heavy team. That could be his incentive to find another landing spot.

I don't think they bring in 2 IF transfers. I can see 1 IF transfer and 1 catcher as position players. Maybe an OF if they want, but I really don't see a need to do that. Especially if Kling passes up on the draft.
The priority will be on pitchers of course.

Totally unrelated, and i dont wanna derail the current discussion, but project, do you know if lsu is recruiting marshall louque from lutcher, class of 2025?

yea i dont know either. Ill be honest i think he ends up at ULL or maybe McNeese type school.
btw wanted to say thanks for all the info you put out there and supply the board.

also wanted to ask, do you feel like the future recruiting classes will mainly be trasnfers and Juco guys?
Personally i feel with the way things going, you will have to be an absolute stud out of high school to get an offer from a top SEC school going forward. Im talking only 3-5 guys per class. I feel places like McNeese, Southeastern and those types and even places like ULL/USM are going to start becoming feeder schools for places like LSU, A&M, Arky etc.
I think D2/D3, JUCO and NAIA will even start to become feeders to the smaller schools in some form, especially juco.

From what I can tell they are.

im sure they will be. His recruitment will kick way up this coming year.
the freshman class acroess the state is stacked big time.
on that note, project is lsu recruiting Landon Victorian from barbe that will be a junior next year and are they recruiting Presley Courville kid that was a freshman from barbe that is currently committed to A&M at catcher?

Yes on both of those.
And I appreciate the thank yous.
Victorian seems to be taking the same route Guidry took and committing relatively later than his peers. I have to say, I like that approach. I can't really say I'm excited to see 2027 guys being targeted. Maybe with the advent of the transfer portal, HS guys will wait on making their decisions.
If for no reason other than to build better relationships with a bunch of coaches to potentially have a landing spot if the first stop doesn't work out.
But I think if guys wait to make their decisions, their decisions may stick a little better.

agree 100%.

i also see the other side and as much as possible as a prospect, secure my position with a school while still seeing if better offers come.
but i do feel like the way guidry did it was a better approach and committing as a junior is the better and even more traditional path. I wish we went back to that period.

I know A&M is after Louque already.
ETA: He and Darrah are similar build, for those not familiar. 6'1-6'2, wiry. I think both will fill out some and be big time recruits. They played like vets as freshman on varsity, especially Louque.

why not? You have two pretty big holes between SS/2B/3B. We assume JT fills one of them. Is the staff sold on who can come in and play right away? Draft risks? The smart thing would be if you find the right guys that fit in, to grab them and let it work itself out. The best teams usually are littered with upper classman. I would always lean to experience over freshman or RS freshman and let those guys develop a year even if highly touted.

why? because the staff feels increasingly good about getting Guidry and Romero on campus and feels both are better than 2/3 infielders we will have returning and both are capable of playing 2nd/3rd/SS along with OF if needed.

People think they will run it back at SS, have Dugas play 3rd, and a freshman at 2b lol
Would be another long year
