Young was risk reward. He could have been huge or uneventful. We will never know.

Dugas to the infield. White at 3B. Simon becomes more important. Guidry plays earlier. This has a lot of ramifications.

Nippolt might be too slow for SEC SS.

At this point the market is extremely slim though. The other option would be to go after any uncommitted JUCO freshmen that showed promise this past season, but with the JUCO level being a lot older than normal, those guys are fewer and farther between.

We seem to be looking for a shorter term solution though and loading up on infielders in the next HS class.

I do wonder if we're going to also go harder after Ryan Black, the UT-Arlington commit from Texas.

I would like Guidry to play early and excel. We likely only get 2 years out of him anyways?

I'm on board to let Guidry take the job as long as he earns it. I have no problem taking another SS but all your doing is adding depth with what's left.

He can if he wants to go.

I’m not too torn up about Young. Of all the transfers I was least excited about him. Nippolt has solid numbers.
Eh, good chance Young was going to be the SS. Nippolt is likely just depth and hopefully his OBP translates if pressed into regular playing time.

Lineup wise, it's the infield defense that would be a concern...again.

I wish we had gone harder after Keaschall instead of Young and Pineda.

Or hired Jack Wilson in some capacity.

yep Keaschall was the one that got away. I wonder if he just wanted to stay out west or how much we even pressed.

Better pitching, more punch outs, less ground balls on 0-2 counts. Optimism

Defense is going to be..........interesting.

If Guidry/Simon were looking for an opportunity for playing time, here it is.

We may end up looking something like this when it's all said and done:

C: Neal/Skenes
1B: White
2B: Pearson
SS: Guidry
3B: Dugas/Thompson
LF: Kling
CF: Crews
RF: Morgan
DH: Dugas/Beloso

I don't think Skenes is catching at all moving forward. Listening to his interviews it doesn't sound like it. He very much enjoys it, but he doesn't want the tear on his body.

I agree that I want to see Guidry at SS granted he produces early at the plate. I just read in another thread JT is still struggling at SS? I don't know if that is true or not, but if so that concerns me. Edit to add, looks like he is playing mostly 3rd base this summer.

FWIW, CJJ liked something Doughty said on Twitter a few weeks ago about Thompson getting better.

According to baseball reference he's played 1 game at SS, had two chances and made 1 error.

I hope so. I know Jay really likes Thompson. We don't need him to be Nola. We just need him to field .940 like he did his freshman year.

No biggie. Can’t say I am not worried about infield defense. We did improve the pitching IMO. Missing out on Pineda or getting the guy from Kansas would have been awesome.
