I think NIL could help baseball more than any other sport but how are you going justify giving a recruit 500K+ deals when the baseball program barely draws 1-2 million in profit a year.

I think you don't know how NIL money works

The money to pay a coach or upgrade facilities doesn’t come from an nil collective, obviously.

I’m not sure how anyone could think one has anything to do with the other.

Maybe the boosters that run the collective would normally donate to the school instead of the players for nil . That’s the only way it’s relevant. I think most of the stuff you listed isn’t booster related though.

For those that want to know some of Wes Johnson's thoughts, he was on 104.5 with Moscona this afternoon.

Matt asked him his thoughts on the draft having now been on both sides of it. He said in his opinion, if you are a HS pitcher and don't go in the first round you need to go to school.

He went on to say in his opinion there really aren't more than 5-7 HS pitchers each year that have any business going pro. They are better off being prepped in college.

He went on to say that the preceding opinion has been his opinion...not just now because he is back in college.

Wes said he was present for Grant Taylor's 12k outing in the cape, and Taylor was the first guy Wes mentioned when asked about returning pitchers. He also spoke highly of Floyd and said he will be working on improving his change up.

Short but decent interview.

Going off topic from the subject of the day. In regards to Dylan Tebrake.

The Mets have started to roll in with a few signings in the last 24-48 hours

Current signees (above/below slot value)
Jett Williams (324k below slot)
Blade Tidwell (370k above slot)
Nick Morabito (123k above slot)
Jonah tonge (slot value)

So that leaves them 179k above slot with those.

Stuart (Southern Miss) and Vermillion (Arkansas) both seniors were the 6th and 10th rounder and will be where the Mets go below slot and make up $400k in slot on those two. Leaving $221k to go over slot between the rest and those are:

Parada
Sproat
Reimer (who I believe signed today)
Tebrake
Estep

They have to pay Parada and will go Over slot.

Tebrake will get slot at best from what I’m looking at here. Still not a bad payday but had he got Gordon, he could’ve got it done!

I do believe NIL helps baseball the most, because it is a way around the scholarship restrictions baseball has. If for nothing else at least guys are probably able to offset any tuition costs.

He is following a lot of other schools and their coaches/existing and new transfer players and even barstool accounts too if I’m reading correctly lol

It's moreso that he just started following NILSU and Mik'd Up, two pages you really wouldn't follow unless something is potentially brewing

Also, I see reports Brewers signed their 3rd pick in the draft (2nd round supplemental pick) Robert Moore for 800K. That’s 115K under slot. That’s 2 of their top 3 significantly under slot. Definitely got me nervous

This brewers page I’m looking at is actually claiming 7 of their draft picks have signed but is only giving the values so far for 2

Yes I know that but the point is it doesn't make financial sense for an unpopular college sport with little media coverage. You'd be tossing money away at that point especially in a small market. It's simply not feasible at all in college baseball. A booster is not going to toss 500k+ on a baseball recruit. Just not happening. LSU's finances which is one of the best in the country in baseball tells you how limited the market is. Most programs lose money on baseball they don't make money like LSU.

The point is don't expect NIL to bail LSU out at keeping a hot HS prospect in baseball.

Kinda random thought here but , if carter young wins the job at ss and gets back to his original form then that would be huge for us . Imagine getting 16 homers out of the shortstop position with our batting lineup. He’s hit 16 bombs in a season and it was his first as a starter in college I believe. I think it was his freshman or sophomore year. He fell off with just 6or7 this past season. But with jj coaching him up , you would think it would bring out the best in him , im not sure who they have as a hitting coach at vandy but I know jj is a good one and that another set of eyes on a player is always a good thing.

So imagine he’s hitting the best he’s ever hit which would have to be over .300 and 17 homers and put that with his defense with another off season of developing there as well.
Now imagine you take Jordan Thompson on last years team and remove about 15 errors and add .20 to his ba and add a handful of homers to his hr total. Putting it at12 ish

Put that with tommy ,Jp ,Morgan, crews, whoever Dhs will hit 15 bombs wether it’s dugas , beloso, or jobert. Say it’s jobert and dugas is in the outfield with Pearson and crews . Then Thompson is at second or third and if he improves his bat and glove , you’ve got a guy that can hit .310 with a possibility to hit 10 homers after development in the off season and weight room.

Now say travinski gets better behind the plate and less swing and miss. If he’s your everyday catcher then you have a guy that hits 240 with 15-23 homers .
Hell he may dh .

Point is that if we wanted to put a team out there that just hits and hits the ball hard , we could do that with this group. That’s not even counting a potential freshman or skenes
If skenes or guidry could play second and Thompson third . We’re looking at some amazing pop in the lineup

So what did I say that would be surprising? Young’s already hit 16 in a season. Travinski could absolutely hit 20 homers in a season with enough abs . Thompson doesn’t have to get much better at all to hit the numbers I posted.

Travinski had 5 homers in like 15 abs last year at one point. He probably won’t play much but if you wanted to field a team just with power hitters then we have guys that could really do it. Hayden would have to get a lot better behind the plate .

Young just needs to play more like he did before last year.

It’s just incredible how much talents on the team and how good we can be if all of our guys just do the same as they have already done

The problem is everything happening at the best all at once is very unlikely. Some guys will improve, others wont, some will be even worse, some wont even really play much. Just how things go. For example, I doubt Travinski even plays much next season. I mean it could happen somehow, but probably unlikely he gets anywhere close to 20 home runs.

The Carter Young thing is being overlooked right now because of Noot and Skenes. Young could be a key piece to our success next year.

At this point, I’m not sure he is on the roster. He may be the odd man out with Neal, Milazzo, Jones, Frey
