I mean how unlucky for us. Can't wait to see that number. I just don't believe it. Moving on, we got plenty of dudes that can play that wanna be here.

Wow.. that's crazy. As others have said, would think he would've gotten bigger day 2 offers than what he's going to sign for now. Doesn't make very much sense.

We knew they couldn't take Noot and Neal, the latter was way more important for this team even though I think Noot is a stud.

The rumor is that he's getting 2nd round money. It's not actually all that likely he would have gotten a bigger offer on Day 2 than Day 3.
On Day 2, you're starting with the third round and you don't have a gauge on how much money you can wiggle with. By day three, you've made your commitments to the 1-10 guys and know more of where you stand. There is a reason guys like this go 11-20 rather than like 4-10.
Brock Porter was little different, but he was the Rangers 2nd pick and they knew they were saving a ton on Rocker and both guys are Boras clients.

Noot signing was always a possibility - and a much more likely one after they saved $600k on their first pick. Will be tough to swallow if the number is under $1.5M, but I think it will end up somewhere between 1.5M and 2M. Still, I was hoping to get one of Shores/Kennedy/Noot and we did.
There are not as much shenanigans with the MLB draft as there used to be, but it is still completely incomparable to any other sport's draft. Round is nearly entirely irrelevant. As is whether someone is on campus, friends with the class, etc. If a player is drafted, all that matters is the available pool vs. their talent as a prospect (unless you have no leverage).

Congrats to the Brewers for being the first team to find that kind of value in the 19th round (YEs Yes I get 11-20 doesn't matter, I'm just disappointed). College baseball recruiting is so fun! I hope the brewers never win a ring

I don't think it's over with Noot. Just based on Johnson's interview this morning.

Thanks, fixed it. For some reason I've always mixed those two up.

They never really asked him. Of course they don't ask the direct questions like are you still looking for pitchers in the portal or there are rumors that Noot is signing. They ask softball questions that everyone already knows the answers to. Useless.

Get skenes we’ll forget about noot

Which is why any player taking less than slot money with leverage baffles me. The clubs do not negotiate fairly or with your best interest in mind. Players should always use their leverage

Wouldn't be surprising. I said that other day based on his actions it signified to me he was just using us as leverage with no intention of staying here. Wonder what the number is.

My hunch is that we'll get news on Skenes before next week. He will have had time to reflect, let some draft pieces move around, but it'll be time to go where he's going.
I'll say it again: I know the primary smoke has been LSU, Arkansas, and Miss St but don't be surprised to see another school swoop in. Vandy has already entered the chat as a player. I think we have as good of a shot as anyone.
ETA: I think we'll also start to see the roster take better shape overall in the next week or so once Jay knows what he's got and what he don't.

What actions exactly signaled you to that solution?
Posted on 7/26/22 at 11:23 am to BayTiger13
Robby Snelling got $3MM, about $1MM over slot

Damn. Good for him. That's 1st round money.

Players mostly care about getting what they think they are worth. If your rankings and feedback indicate you're a 5th to 7th round talent and you set your number at $400k, it doesn't matter much what round you get picked in. If a team calls you up and say will you sign for $400k, it doesn't make any difference if it is the 2nd, 5th, 12th, or 19th round. Maybe a slight sense of pride at the higher round, but most baseball people know the number is all that matters. In a scenario in which you say you want the slot for the pick, they just won't draft you if the team does not think you're worth it.
Shitty system, but that's the way it is. I would be nice if there was a hard slot for each pick, but that's unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Posted on 7/26/22 at 11:52 am to JustinTI
My personal opinion is that if they do the hard slot, they'll need to chop the top off the first few picks and spread all of that down.
There is almost never a player in the draft worth slot at 1/1.
