Yea. I feel like we rarely lose HS guys past round 3 too. Last year was a bit abnormal to lose the amount of guys we lost in round 3 and 4

It’s not a round thing to worry about. It’s money. If they are picked today or tomorrow they are not going to be on campus. The money is agreed upon before the pick so they don’t lose the money in the slot without having a guy sign.
Last years draft had 3 not sign out the top 10 rounds. 1 being Kumar Rocker with the drama with the physical for the Mets.

Clearly, the pick slot significantly impacts the money offered. Someone can offer a lot more in round 2 than round 5, which is why we typically do not lose guys that late.

They won’t get picked that late if they can’t afford the player. That’s kind of the point
Teams lose the money if they can’t sign the player.
Despite what has been recited on here, each team has a plan & a budget on who they can & can’t sign

Y’all are trying to explain a beginners guide to the MLB draft when most people in this thread very much understand what happens. I simply said we do not lose many HS prospects past round 4 since the slot drops significantly and teams generally do not go overslot that far at that point. Hence saying you can probably feel better about getting guys after that round. It gets said a million times a year that top 10 round picks have deals agreed on due to the draft rules.
It’s not hard to understand that the likelihood of a guy not getting picked gets better the later in the draft.

Whats the cap at now for guys drafted after round 10? I seem to remember a max of 125k in the past

Ok that’s pretty simple. I think it’s one of those things I ask before the draft every year because it doesn’t stick in my head for some reason lol

They can sign for $125k without penalty. If a team spends more it comes out of their pool money

There won’t be but a handful of HS kids taken from Rd5-10 to begin with
Tiger fans can breath easy after about pick 125

It’s so hard to predict without knowing the numbers, but I do think both the new transfer portal rules & NIL make college a more desirable development strategy than it was before.
I think
Crawford
Toman
Romero
Snelling
Neal
Shores
Misiorowski
Are gone
Noot 75/25 pro Lean.
Feel good about
Guidry- Draft eligible Soph, does not have to wait to jump back in. Has a quick path to playing time given position versatility as well as ability to pitch
Kennedy- I mean, I get it. Very good pitcher but I think there are probably questions about his projectibility. A 17yr old 6’1” LHP T92-93 is going to get 7 figs? Idk. You kinda have to be a complete wipeout dude with size for that & I don’t know if he is that right now
Jared Jones- he’s just so large, I think we can agree he will eventually have to give up catching, right? Bat-first kid comes to school to figure that out? He’s going to love hitting those balls they used this season if so
Tebrake is a guy to watch. If they can NIL match his would-be signing bonus, or give him even more, that may be enough motivation for a guy that really doesn’t have a reason to come back to college.
That’s just my feel. It’s prob completely wrong but that’s what I feel after reading about these guys for the last 6mo

I’d really like to see Neal come. I’m praying for a surprise.

I think he’s also a guy that knows which orgs are going to be better for him. If the Yankees, Rays, Dodgers, or Guardians draft him, the number might go down. Conversely if the Pirates or White Sox draft him, the number may go up.

Neal re-classifying makes me think that that is a move to get into professional baseball as soon as he can
