People who don't like baseball are really missing out. Being a fan of both a college and professional baseball team, with the unique rules of the draft that don't exist in other sports, there is so much to follow, and so many variables. You can be excited to see who your team drafts, while simultaneously getting more and more excited as you see other players being passed on, knowing that they might make it to your college team.
That's way more entertaining than the snooze fests in other drafts, in my opinion. This class for LSU is the best I've seen since Mainieri's first full class here, which had tons of stars in it (and they won a title). So watching to see how much of it actually makes it to campus will be very interesting.

Agreed. While there are more players you’ve never heard of compared to football or basketball, I like the pace and fact that you can look for area HS kids, your MLB team (Astros for me), and how the LSU and other SEC commits fall. Then, you have the drama of the signing pool money after. Good stuff
ETA- damn I just noticed it starts at 5. I miss the old days where it started early and went all day.
For those like me that didn’t know-
Today at 6 PM- Rounds 1, A, 2, B are today
Tomorrow 1 PM- Rounds 3-10
Tues 1 PM- Rounds 11-20

Yep. MLB decided a few years ago to try to do what other drafts do by making that first day a prime time event to try to draw in more viewers. I don't know if it's helped. The average sports fan doesn't follow amateur baseball like some of us do, near the same way as they follow other sports, so they don't really know who's who, and what to be excited about. Which is too bad, for the reasons we've mentioned already. It's really fun when you know enough about it.

Clipped this from last year from a post by P2.
In quotes is the assigned slot money. On the bottom is what they actually received.
Also keep in my, the team that drafts any player in the top 10 rounds that cannot be signed, forfeits the slotted amount of bonus money. This is why Jay Johnson says he does not expect top 10 Rd guys to show up.

I'm not sure if MLB will be able to pull off the $700k like they did for Moller last year with the new NIL rules.
I could see players passing up that sort of offer to come to college knowing that they could earn something for NIL. I guess we'll see!

I was upset about Selvidge but he was drafted by the Yankees who do a great job with pitchers and they more than doubled his slot value
It would've been nice to see him on campus though.

Hope for the best and expect the worst

I think the best possible scenario would be 7 lost. Worst: lose everyone but Kling.

Sucks that with the one round and supplemental picks that we won’t know much by the end of the night when it comes to who will make it to campus or not

I think it’s 86 picks tonight. We will see some guys come off the board for sure. Then it will tell us what teams we need to watch out for on day 2.

Ok , so it’s more than I thought then.
Posted on 7/17/22 at 1:42 pm to ProjectP2294
Why would it tell us what teams to watch for? We don’t know what teams think of our guys necessarily. Are you talking about who has money to spend on picks or what? I’m not very well versed when it comes to mlb draft. I only really watch college and that didn’t start until 5 years ago or so
Posted on 7/17/22 at 1:43 pm to Tigerpride18
The over slot thing is something I only have a vague understanding of
Posted on 7/17/22 at 2:17 pm to Tigerpride18
Because you’ll know who the teams have picked and if they’re likely someone who could be signed under slot, which would leave extra pool money to throw at subsequent picks.
