They could maximize the viewer friendliness of it if they put it on right after Omaha though. It's never going to gain a super wide audience, but they could grow it.

Putting it around the all star break isn't going to do it though.

I saw a Tweet today from Kiley McDaniel talking about Vandy getting one of their top recruits to pull their name from the draft. There was reference to the stacked classes for Vandy and LSU and he talked about those teams trying to get their guys to commit to school before the draft.

I do wonder if we can get some guys to do this before the draft to remove the doubt. I was thinking about this even before the coaching hire today. Maybe they can lure a few more arms to campus.

It makes sense with the Vandy kid. At one time he had a mid-round 1 grade and with every update, he keep falling. Also a draft-eligible sophomore. LSU's problem is a lot of their draft risks have been climbing up boards.

Not the guys like Kling and Kennedy, who would be the candidates to opt out of the draft.

Delaying the draft puts MLB clubs behind in evaluating the next class, so even they don't like it. Most teams are ready to pick after this week. Their initial draft boards are set. Clubs and advisors are currently coordinating players' bonus expectations.

I’m curious what gets more attention for the draft. The MLB fans or college baseball fans. I’m a big Astros fan, but I personally don’t follow the draft for them after the 3rd round. It seems like the the rest of the draft after that is just fillers for the minor league orgs. I follow the rest of the draft to see what lsu signees are getting drafted tho.

That's kind of where I'm going with it. Putting it near the all star game makes it seem like a Majors event. But it's really not. Such a small percentage of the guys will actually make it and most won't for 3 or 4 years.

It's much more an amateur baseball event. So pair it up with Omaha, which is pretty much the jewel of amateur baseball.

I would guess there are more college fans following it than MLB fans. The MLB fans following it would be the super hardcore fantasy guys or super hardcore prospect guys.

The draft becomes more popular as more college players are selected in the first three rounds. MLB does not view the college system as a strategic partner like other leagues because it already invests heavily in its minor league system for player development. The draft age should be raised from 17 to 20 and the low A minor system should be abolished. A complex league for mainly HS signees would still be necessary to acclimate international players to US culture.

I’m wondering if jj will be interested in getting a catcher from the portal. Don’t we have one in the recruiting class that’s a draft risk?

I mean, with McManus leaving, we’re pretty much in the same situation as we were when jay went after McManus.

There are 3 catchers in the portal with unreal stats . I believe one hit over .400 with 10 homers and I know the portal has a plethora of catchers that bat around 300 ish

With millazos injury history now, how much can we count on him playing every game? At best he would play like 85% of the games. If Hayden’s still here then he would be ok as a backup , but you would like to get a guy that can put the ball in play more. Dude was as close as it gets to being a homer or strikeout guy.
He’s crap behind the plate at the college level.

I wish we had McManus another year

We've reached out to two or three catchers in the portal and one that was a freshman at JUCO this past season.

I don't know if the JUCO one is for this upcoming year or the following one though.

We have 3 catchers in this class and 2 of them are draft risks. Also not sure if 2 of them will stick at catcher or move to 1B at some point in their career.

I do think Jay is looking in the portal for a catcher. I'm hoping Travinski can get some good work in this summer in the cape and improve his defense this offseason and also his contact rate. Have to remember he has dealt with injuries in every season so far. If he can get a full offseason to work on development, he may come out of it a completely different player next season.

Saw that. 3-6 start with 2 doubles.

Caught 13 innings in the 2 games and doesn't have an error, so that is good. Can't find any stats on steals/caught stealing.

Looked a little further into the box scores. Looks like he threw out 1 of 4 base stealers.

I still believe in Hayden. I'm watching his offseason development closely.

There is enough talent on the roster now, they just need to be coached up. Hopefully our next coaching hire has a catching background.

A high CS% is definitely a good sign, but a low one isn't necessarily a bad one when we don't know the pitchers.

ETA: Not specifically telling you, just putting it out there.

Is Hurd thought to be a silent commit?

There are some people that feel that way.

I'm more cautious.

I don't think anyone is committed until they're publicly committed.
