Good write up. Some factual errors about the summer league he pitched in, but overall a good story.
The Prospect League didn't merge with the Kernels League. The Prospect League has a team in Normal, IL. When the league cancelled the season, some of the affiliates (Normal, IL and O'Fallon, MO) started up leagues based out of the stadiums that would have hosted Prospect League Teams. Both franchises are run by the same promotional group (though not owned by the same people as far as I can tell).
The Kernels League hosted mostly players from in and around Illinois.
The CarShield League (at CarShield Park in O'Fallon, MO) had players from the St Louis Metro area but also from other parts of the country. Guys that train at P3 (a pitching lab in St Louis), some minor leaguers (Jake Burger and Tate Matheny), and guys from pretty much every major conference. I went to some of the games, it was enjoyable. Some of the coaches were furloughed MILB coaches.
I watched a lefty outfielder from Cal St Bakersfield get on the mound and throw 97. A week later the Reds signed him. I saw a bunch of scouts looking at a pitcher from Missouri State whose name I can't remember.

I've found the first summer assignment for the 2021 offseason so far. Mitchell Sanford is expected to play for the Charlottesville TomSox in the Valley League.

Good write up.
I could see us still looking for a few more JUCO arms in this class. Still waiting to see if they go after any JUCO catchers.

Project, Correct me if I'm wrong, but since the MLB draft was moved to July, that changed the eligible date and now Milazzo is a draft eligible sophomore, correct?

Rounds of draft still to be determined
Most likely between 20-30 rounds
Will be interesting to see what minor leagues do next season
It will be hard to play and lose money without fans
These players missed a year of development with a new crop coming in

Yeah. Milazzo is the only one for LSU whose draft eligibility changed.

Prep Baseball Report has really upped their coverage of JUCO baseball. They recently had someone out scouting McLennan JC in Waco, TX and posted the article without a paywall: PBR JUCO Wire
Former LSU pitcher Riggs Threadgill is there. He's got good potential but didn't get a ton of chances to show his stuff at LSU. He missed time his freshman fall due to a non-baseball injury IIRC.
Two of the other pitchers listed, Will Carsten and Logan Henderson, are guys we're evaluating. Carsten we've been looking at for a while. He was a Tulane commit originally, but backed off of that commitment to see if he could play basketball and baseball anywhere. Handerson we recently started looking at. He is listed as a middle infielder on Perfect Game, but McLennan shows him as a pitcher.
As far as Texas JUCO pitchers go, Henderson kind of reminds me of current Tennessee Vol Chad Dallas for a couple reasons. They're both 5'11" and they both pretty much only strike people out. Henderson played in the 5 Tool Collegiate League this past summer (same league Javen Coleman played in). In 16.2 innings he struck out 46 guys (he only walked 2). He struck out 83% of the batters he faced. According to PBR he gets it up to 94 and has a good curveball.

Another summer league assignment has popped up: Augustus Milligan will play in the South Florida Collegiate League for the Delray Beach Lightning.

Dylan Crews is expected to play in the cape cod league this summer for the Harwich Mariners.

Does the MLB sponsored wooden bat summer league start this summer?
Posted on 10/16/20 at 10:49 am to barry
Yeah, it's replacing the Appalachian League. It's supposed to draw incoming Freshmen and Rising Sophomores, which would leave rising Juniors and up for the Cape League.
With the draft pushed back, I think you'll see more draft eligible guys playing in the summer to raise their stock, but this is still going to undercut the Cape Cod League.
The new league will be a continuation of the MLB's PDP league. I'm still conflicted on it. I know it will be good competition and instruction for the players that go to it, but it's giving Rob Manfred control over another aspect of baseball and taking away from some of the good things that already existed.

Care to expand on this? I mean I dislike Manfred as much as anyone but he won’t be commissioner forever. I would think the more interest the MLB shows in college baseball the better

In general I think what manfred is doing to baseball is bad for the game long term. He’s essentially organized a hostile takeover of the minor leagues, forced contraction against the wishes of many front office people, and is expanding MLBs reach into the amateur side.
A lot of this isn’t designed to help baseball be better, but to help it be cheaper for the owners, who make money hand over fist.
I don’t think the minor league system was perfect, but cutting 42 teams from it and putting caps on how many minor league teams a franchise could have are more harmful than helpful. He placated a few cheap owners and homogenized everything.
He’s also taking professional baseball away from some areas that don’t have major league teams anywhere near them, which is going to limit the growth of baseball and baseball fans in general. Basically looking to save a buck today by cutting off the opportunity to earn a lot more later.

I’ve thought for years now that the minor league system was too bloated. I’m not informed with exactly how Manfred shaved teams off but I’m not mad at the idea. The fewer minor league players the more college players. It sucks for the fans of those particular teams but I’ve long wanted to see more high school talent find their way to college.
Probably not Manfreds intent and I might be completely wrong idk

I don't necessarily disagree that the minor leagues were bloated, but I disagree with putting a cap for each team on the number of affiliates they could have. If the Yankees want to pay to have 12 affiliates, that should be okay. The Rays obstinance to paying for minor league affiliates should affect anyone other than the Rays. That's what I mean by homogenization. They're taking away the ability for franchises to pursue development on their own terms.
Manfred targeted mainly teams with stadium issues or leagues with older stadiums and small attendance. But in the process he's also reformed the player development contracts between MLB and MILB and set up for a future where MILB owners can be forced out for MLB owners to take their place. Some of the MILB realignment is needed, especially geographically, but strong-arming MILB owners into selling their player development contracts is a dishonorable way of going about things.
And there is a concerted effort to push more HS talent to college. It's because the MLB teams don't have to pay for their development in college, but it also means they don't hit free agency until they're older and less valuable. So it's a way for them to save a buck on the front end and on the back end.

Project, what do you know about JC Vanek class of 2023 out of lake Charles?
Posted on 10/20/20 at 6:58 pm to redfieldk717
According to PBR he’s the top uncommitted kid in that class in LA. Looks like it’s a loaded class for the state. We are recruiting him, along with several other Barbe kids in different classes.

Pay attention to him in the near future ;)
