Really nice late add being drafted in 17th round. 6'3 220, built like a tank. Saw he topped out at 91 mph. Wonder if he gets that up some more with that kind of build.

Well that event was over 9 months ago and he was still 17 so it's not crazy to think once he works on his mechanics and gets into a college weight and nutrition program he could pick up a couple mph. Hell if it has good movement on it 91 mph is plenty.

Just some additional housekeeping on the MLB draft guys:

Jacob Pearson got $1MM, Blayne Enlow got $2MM, Andrew Bechtold got $600,000. All of those well above their slot.

Good for them.

Incoming infielder Brandt Broussard out of Delgado has been added to the Danville Dans roster in the prospect league. That puts him with Doolittle, Webre, and Templet.

Templet hit his first home run of the summer this evening. He already had 6 or 7 doubles and 1 triple.

Mainieri's pattern has been to put a premium on defense at 3rd, at least recently. I think that it may be more likely that slaughter ends up at third with broussard competing at 2nd. I still want to see where slaughter, templet, and broussard get the bulk of their summer reps though.

Webre seems destined for the outfield right now, but obviously that can change.

Cabrera has only struck out twice in 11 games and 42 at bats. He has hit for virtually no power, but the scouting report of him being able to barrel up everything seems to be on point.

Where is Coomes playing summer ball? I bet Mainieri asks his coach to put him at 3rd and let's see what he could do there.

He definitely has a hose for throwing across the diamond.

USA Baseball Tournament of Stars starts tomorrow. It's a big evaluation event to whittle down the candidates for the 18U team for this summer. We had several guys participate last year, and this year is no different. Here is the roster from Baseball America: LINK

LSU commits scheduled:
Levi Kelly
Elijah Cabell
Landon Marceaux
Brice Turang
Rece Hinds

Brice is a monster player, might be a miracle if we keep him.

Yeah, he's got top 5 PICK potential. I don't expect him to come to campus.

So I'm still excited about this season and not ready to move onto football yet. Thinking about next season, what's the rolls that some of the incoming guys will play?

Storz and Cabrera contribute from day one? Similar to Smith and/or Walker this past year? What about Webre? Where does he play?

I would think so, we need a 1st baseman for next year and Storz provides a big bat as well. I hope he gets his shot there.

Cabrera is a lock to start in the OF IMO.

I don't think there was anything substantive there, just speculation.

Agreed. He's batting leadoff and starting in CF for his summer team. Which means he's maximizing his plate appearances and getting reps in the hardest OF position (it's always easier to move down the defensive spectrum).

I hope that Storz is given an opportunity to hit and pitch. He would make sense as a huge target at 1B. Templet may also push for time at 1B. He's playing there some in summer league (has also played 2nd and 3rd in limited appearances).

Might want to rethink this move

I expect 2-3 freshmen to contribute. Always seems to end up happening. Carbrera and Storz are the obvious choices but someone may come out of nowhere and grab a spot.

Has LSU ever had a player good enough to be a legitimate two way player before or is that something CPM is strongly against?
