Now, most of our signees will have to get overslot money to sign. The 3rd round is the round to watch, after that they will probably have to have a ton of leftover money to get any of them.

You're right. Slot for pick #78, which was the last pick tonight, is 763K. I don't think you can get Marceaux for that, and you aren't likely to get Willis, Hill or Henry for it either. Kelly and Cabell, probably.

4th round too pick is around 500k so we should for sure land the guys that fall there, but you never know

Side note: in his past 2 summer games Gavin Dugas is 7-8 with 4 stolen bases. Only was was a xbh, but still impressive

First 2 rounds went pretty much as expected for LSU. Turang was always a long shot.

Crossed fingers on Rounds 3-5.

At this point though...I like where Tigers sit.

It was kind of the same thing last year and it went south quick. I’ll breath a little once the 3rd round is over. I don’t think anyone important in the class is looking at going in the 4th or later.

Is there any part of the 3rd round we need to watch? Aka if signees get past whatever particular pick or team.

Not sure. I don’t think KC and Tampa are as big of threats as they were before the draft bc they will have to go overslot with their first picks, but KC would probably be a team to watch with Cabell. He went to a predraft showcase there. Someone also pointed out they used all 5 of their picks on pitchers so far, so this next one will be a hitter. They would have to really like him tho, since he’s a risky player

You can’t really start to feel safe until the the 10th round is over. The slot obviously decreases rapidly today, but teams lose the slot value of top 10 round picks from their pool if the player doesn’t sign. So it is usually a safe assumption a deal has been worked out if a player is picked in the top 10. The longer it goes the better, as to meet high prices means they have to go that much over and need more “savings” elsewhere, but teams with big pools or who draft a lot of seniors early today could still be a threat to cut an over slot deal.

I agree you can't fully feel safe until after 10, but after around 5 or 6 you can breathe a little easier. The third and 4th rounds today are stressful because overnight teams have had a chance to reorganize their board and figure out their budgets.

Yeah we’ll reach a point where most of our guys just won’t be picked until they’re in 11+, but we can’t necessarily dismiss anyone who may be picked in round 7 with a low slot as an example.

Also, Vanderbilt

Anyone want to give me a quick rundown of how the slot value and budget works in the draft?

Can you pay a 1st or 2nd round pick over slot?

Why is the 10th round significant? Is that the point in which a team no longer loses a portion of their budget if they don't sign the draft pick?

They upped the round 11-40 exemption from $100k to $125K. That doesn't seem like a lot, but it can be the difference for bordeline guys.

MOT, how many players drafted last night were Vandy signees? I know Weathers was one for sure.

Ethan Hankins
Ryan Weathers
Will Banfield
Xavier Edwards

At least these 4.

Mississippi St lost like 3 pitchers in the first round.

I think only Watson and Hess will be drafted today off of the current roster.....not Sanders and not Duplantis. What do others think?

Duplantis may go from 6-10. I do agree that Sanders will be the early teens OR a team will ask him if he's willing to sign below slot and then he'll come off the board earlier.

I think Sanders goes today. I think he's going to be an underslot guy for some team.
