But with success, brings expectations. And having the type of talent he has this year, he needs to be able to show what he can do with that type of talent in order to continue making his case to future elite players that they should feel comfortable putting their careers in his hands.

This is true as both Dale Brown and Johnny Jones know. When Dale didn't get past the 2nd round with Shaq for three years and JJ not even making the tournament in Simmons' only year, those guys were toast. Wade is better positioned, but he can't noticeably underperform like Brown and Jones. With the team he has this year, he probably needs to make the Sweet 16 to keep momentum, although just winning one game in the tournament would be good enough to keep him off the hot seat.

The only way Wade sees a bad reaction from the fan base to the level of being on the "hot seat" is if he fails to make the tournament. And again, that even feels weird to say as most felt when he was hired that year 3 is the year to reasonably expect a tournament appearance.

But I've said in other posts that considering the talent of this team, then the expectation, and probably the "floor" for this team is and should be to make the tournament. I believe that the talent and coaching is there to get to at least the Sweet 16; but even if they lose in the first round, by no means should Wade be considered to be on the hot seat. A lot of other factors beyond just talent come into play in postseason success. Despite this team being talented they will still be young and inexperienced when it comes to the tournament. Heck, as a program LSU has only been once in the past 9 years. I say all of that to say that culture is still being built by Wade and the staff, and to expect a deep run in the tournament in year 2 of a complete rebuild of this program is not exactly a reasonable expectation to have.

The DAle Brown era started long before Shaq. Dale could ahve stayed as long as he wanted but 25 years was enough for him and he was ready to retire. Dale had so many accomplishments during hs tenure that he cannot be judged by what occurred during a three year span. The college game was not as tolerant of Shaq's power game as the NBA was , bu opponents often had more leeway in defending him than he di with them due to subconscious bias by the officials.

EVERY WORD of your post above is 100% true with maybe the exception of Dale being able to stay. I think the fans and admin were about at the end of their rope with Dale, and the NCAA (legit or not) was breathing down his neck regarding the Lester Earl fiasco. Nonetheless, I have many great memories from the Dale era.

Same here. I loved Dale Brown. I was a freshman at LSU in 1983 and graduated law school in 1991. It was a great time for LSU basketball. The expectations were so high for the 1990 team (Shaq, CJ, Roberts) that Dale and other coaches were talking about an LSU BB dynasty. One coach jokingly said something to the effect that LSU's talent was so good "even Dale can't mess them up." The team was never really the same after Shaq left. It seemed like Dale had deflated - he finally got the team he wanted but didn't produce the results he expected. He had made the Final 4 twice with other players, but couldn't get past the second round with one of the best, most dominant centers to ever play the game.

For a number of reasons, I don't think the same will happen with Wade, mainly because he is younger and he seems like a very resilient guy. That being said, I think he'll take this team to the tournament and, depending on the pairings, they'll pick up 2 wins in the tournament.

Wade is a much better gameday coach then Brown was. I can’t find a hole in his coaching honestly. He did as good a job overhauling that lsu roster in about a 12 month time frame as anyone else could have possibly done. We will compete for an sec title this season and make the ncaa tourny. Id be surprised if we were not peaking around that time of year as well

I'm pretty sure that was sonny smith at auburn that said even Dale can't mess that team up.

I wish Daddy wouldn't have been pressured to leave as soon as it came to bear.. He was good for many, many profitable bets.

They were an NCAA tourney team the next season with Geert Hammink and Jamie Brandon.

More than Shaq leaving I believe the day Randy Livingston blew out his knee was the day the music died for LSU basketball. Randy was never he same and neither was LSU basketball despite the individual heroics of Ronnie Henderson. As the program began to falter it was clear it was time for Dale to retire gracefully. He and Joe Dean chose the best way to end it with one last year where he was honored throughout the league. It was well deserved because he had shown other schools that you could challenge Kentucky for league supremacy and not have to back down.

Dale Brown left an incredible mark on LSU, the state of Louisiana and the college basketball world. He did it his wa and not every one agreed with im at times but he stuck by his convictions.

Dale took 15 teams 4 tourney worthy teams in the 25 years before his tenure if today's expanded tournament format is applied. Since his retirement there have been 9 post seson appearances in 21 years.

So in an attempt to steer this conversation back to recruiting; Aundre Hyatt is currently on his LSU OV. Anyone with inside info hearing how it’s going?

No inside info but the consensus was he is LSU’s to lose going into the visit. Considering how well this staff recruits, I can’t jmagine them completely tanking the visit.

I agree. Was just curious if the train is still running on the same track and to see if anyone has gathered Hyatt's impressions after seeing the program/school in person.

Heard a lot of people saying he’d probably redshirt this year. Still true?

That’s what Billy is still saying; but no one has said it is a definite. Read in another place that it would be a November decision based on how he does in pre-season workouts and roster shapes up.

I was looking forward to Rachal to contribute on D and the glass.

With this roster, it is more than likely this would have amounted to a development year for Rachal as well had he stayed on the team. I agree he started to understand and play his role better at end of last year; but I don’t think he would have really seen many, if any, impact minutes on this year’s team.

Now I was definitely looking forward to that development and seeing how he could contribute in years 3 and 4 when you are likely to have more of a roster of program type players with one or two elite talents mixed in. But in the end, Rachal did this to himself.

Yeah, I think it's how he recuperates from his injury along with getting to college a year earlier than normal

Smart move. He could dominate at that level and get some big offers.
