Really don't care what Wade said on the radio. If sims is seeing any kind of significant time at the 3 this season isn't going to nearly as good as people are anticipating. He should be one of the last people off the bench this season if the incoming talent is anywhere near as good as advertised.

Will Wade doesn’t give out praise lightly. If he speaks highly of you , you earned it. Secondly, he didn’t mention anything about “significant” time for Sims at the 3.

They aren’t going to use him like Lebron... catch and shoot 3s and slashing to the basket. They want to get bigger at the 3, for defense and rebounding purposes which is a reason I don’t see a 6’3 170 lbs guard playing there for significant time.
Like I said earlier, Edwards is one of the best hustle players on the team which will get him some time, but he didn’t show much upside last year, and we brought in a class full of high upside guys

I think Wade trusts Edwards the most of anyone on the team not named Tremont Waters. However, he's likely hoping Taylor becomes the wing defender LSU didn't have last year. If so, he's going to play big minutes. And with the addition of Smart, you might have a guy who's too dynamic to leave on the bench. Plus you have Mays who Wade likes as well.
If Edwards is going to play big minutes this year it will be because he is knocking down 3's and "playing good enough defense" (or because Taylor isn't living up to Wade's expectations)
Above all though, Wade is going to play the guys who defend. LSU didn't get beat last year because they couldn't score. Far from it. They got beat because they couldn't stop the opponent from scoring. Maybe the only two guys who will get a "pass" on defense are Waters and Reid. That's because they are far too skilled offensively to sit them for not playing great defense.

You underestimate the impact of an upperclassman. Just because these new toys have more talent, doesn't mean they're instantaneous plug and play guys. I expect Sims to continue to improve and have a good year with solid minutes. Mays will start over Smart. Edwards will get more minutes than Taylor.

Not all the time, only for certain matchups/situations. Assuming Hyatt does in fact redshirt, here are 4 options for a "bigger" 3 and sims is by far the most limited of those options.

Not at all. I just know that sims is extremely limited as a basketball player. He's an undersized 4 with average athleticism and not a threat as a perimeter player. Last year he basically had to be on the court due to lack of depth. That isn't nearly as much of an issue this year, especially at the 3.

IMO Sims' minutes will mostly disappear in the bigger games. He will be a guy to get a lot more minutes in the blowout games. We just have more versatile, talented players now.

I didn't say anything about sims not earning praise.

No, but the poster I was responding to alluded to sims playing the 3 twice on the previous page as a reason for Edwards not being there. Edwards has a potential role to fill at the 3 as a 3pt shooter and defender against smaller guys. Sims does not have a role to fill at that posution outside of injury or significant foul trouble.

I agree with all this. Obviously if Taylor is a bust Edwards will have to play a bigger role. But unless Edwards comes back a new man on offense, I think his size limitations will keep him from playing over more talented 2 way guys.
Edwards did well defensively last year, but you want him defending the smallest guard, which is not possible with Waters on the court.

Think we’ll see Edwards more early on because of his experience and defense but eventually I expect Smart to eat away at those minutes. We’ll need him this year.

I can see this as well. Once we are mid way through sec play the rotation will be different than it was to start the year

Well, not that any one expected Reid to stay more than one year at LSU, but I think this quote from Wade kind of confirms that:
That's HUGE praise for Reid from a guy who's generally not prone to hyperbole
quote:
"Could be? Shoot. Will be." - Will Wade on #LSU 5-star freshman Naz Reid being a potential first round pick.
Has lost over 20 pounds, great listener.
"The best way I can put it is like having Tremont at the power forward/center spot."

Damn......that is high praise

Billy from 247 said he looked like he was in the 230 range for the AA game. I knew that wasn’t right, but I didn’t think he weighed 270 or close to it

Why does he have to be a "new man" on offense. A consistent and smooth outside shot and very quick and smart decision maker. He knows his role which for a coach can be invaluable, he is just improving in other areas which is what every player should do, CWW has just said he has improved.

His toughness and defense make up for his "size limitations". I think you have it wrong man his toughness and shooting will allow to play over more talented 2 way guys.

Thats not an accurate statement with Bigby-Williams at the 5 I could see a lot more switching on perimeter motion and you would certainly have Edwards guarding much larger wings.
Also we are in as good of shape as we could hope for Watford, it will come down to the wire with us and Bama. I think the relationship Bill Armstrong has will win out.

If you think he’s a consistent scorer or shooter then you didn't watch the games last year.
He seemingly missed more wide open shots than contested ones

How do you know he hasn't improved? Wade says he has.

It seems to me that there is very little recruiting discussed on this board in the last number of posts. If discussion is about current players, please move to the rant. Thanks.
