I think Katrina is the reason Houston is such a popular recruiting spot for LSU. A lot of displaced families went that way, and with oil and gas being there, it draws a lot of Louisiana natives.

Every year we produce elite, skilled athletes, so it would seem like Louisiana would also have its fair share of talented OL.
That's actually counter productive. Since Louisiana has very skilled tailbacks, wide receivers, and QB's less emphasis is put on using the oline properly. QB's who get the starting job look more impressive scrambling around all over the place and never learn to use a pocket. Therefore the oline never learns how to hold a pocket.

To me it seems like the best offensive linemen come from areas with less athletic skill players.

It probably doesn't have much to do w/it, but offensive line is one of the hardest positions to master, along w/all the sets & blocking schemes. Our big guys only know to put their head down and rush that passer. It doesn't take the time & effort to learn to bull rush a lineman as it does to learn to keep the lineman from bull rushing your QB.

Great point. I never looked at it that way, but it makes sense. I think O has done a great job of making LSU a national brand, so hopefully he can now go into those less athletic areas and grab a few 5-star monsters to help us in the trenches.

Lot of OL in North Lousiana but of course according to Tigerdroppings anything north of I10 isn’t Louisiana.

No, man. As has been pointed out by others, it’s a genetic thing. Louisiana is settled by mostly southern Europeans and sub-saharan Africans. The southern Europeans don’t produce a lot of football players, period, and the Africans produce mostly quick twitch athletes who play the skill positions.

Huge linemen come mostly from nordic and anglo-saxon bloodlines. We don’t have much of that down here. The Africans produce quite a few, but they end up on the dline mostly becaus eof their quick twitch abilities.
