Gentlemen ….

You asked for it and now here is the qualitative and quantitative data to appropriately support my position that Louisiana is losing too many highly rated defensive backfield recruits.

Please pay special attention to Point #1 before reading Point #2.

1)
—-To note LSU signed 9 out of the states top 10 recruits is not related to my topic.

—-I am discussing cb and safeties ONLY… In-State recruits only…only those positions were specifically noted in the topic. No other positions were mentioned.

—- For those that bring up how many recruits signed overall (all positions) from Louisiana …..please research what “reading comprehension” actually means and try to better yourself !

2.
In support of my statement we are losing the best and highly rated DB’s in the state…..Here are the losses over the last…not 3 years….BUT 4 consecutive years.
Per On3 recruiting rankings:

Recruiting Year -Class 2022
The highest rated S and #1 player in state of Louisiana.
—- Jacoby Matthews (S), 96.87 Texas AM

Year 2023
—The highest rated S and CB in Louisiana.
— Derrick Williams (S). 95.52 to Texas.
—Jordan Matthews (CB). 93.28 to Tenn.

Year 2024
Louisianas highest rated CB….
—-Wardell Mack (CB) 93.12 to Texas

Year 2025
Louisianas highest rated cb…..
—- Jaboree Antoine (cb) 93.31 Miami

The facts cannot be disputed regarding the recruiting losses at the S and CB positions.

You can’t tell me you are not shocked and surprised by those numbers.

Class is now…..Dismissed.
You are Excused.

Why stop at 2022?

2021
— Jardin Gilbert (S), 91.52 Texas A&M (#2 safety)
— De’Kelvion Beamon (CB), 84.67 OK State (#1 CB)

2020
— Major Burns (S), 92.07 UGA (#1 safety)
— Eric Reed (CB), 91.73 Auburn (#1 CB)

2019
— Devin Bush (CB), 90.36 Arkansas (#2 CB)
— Ishmael Burdine (S), 89.00 Missouri (#1 safety)

2018
— Corione Harris (CB), 90.41 Kansas (#1 CB)

2017
— Brad Stewart (S), 92.28 Florida (#2 safety)
— Tre Swilling (CB), 89.52 GA Tech (#1 CB)

2016
— Shyheim Carter (S), 94.88 Alabama (#1 safety)

2015
— Kevin Henry (S), 97.64 OK state (#1 safety)

2014
— Hootie Jones (S), 95.92 Alabama (#1 safety)
— Mattrell McGraw (CB), 90.56 Oregon (#1 CB)

2013
This is the last time we pulled the #1 cornerback and safety in LA.

2012
— Landon Collins (S), 97.99 Alabama (#1 safety)

2011
— Bradley Sylve (CB), 92.98 Alabama (#1 CB)

2010
— Trovon Reed (CB), 96.03 Auburn (#1 CB)

2009
— Janzen Jackson (CB), 95.87 Texas (#1 CB)
— Jarvis Walker (S), 85.85 Kentucky (#1 safety)

.. I don’t think I need to continue.

Looking at that list, Derek Williams is the only proven "miss". No idea how good Wardell Mack or Antoine will actually turn out to be and Antoine isnt done yet. Im not defending CR, I still think he needs to do better recruiting in state.

Where we're in luck here is the success of the recruiting class and program doesn't depend solely on recruiting in state. It IS permissible to recruit out of state. And yes, I can read and comprehend but I won't be constrained by your stupid parameters. The success of the program of the program depends on the OVERALL recruiting along with proper evaluation, coaching and development. Now let's see how YOUR reading comprehension stacks up.

This time last year, folks in here were flipping out about the instate defensive lineman leaving for other schools.

This is the part of the recruiting board I love. Speaking the truth is crying. Have to love it. Let me know when Pickett can cover both sides of the field and the slot. Not many successful teams play with 1 CB. We have a disaster of a CB room and need 3 maybe 4 in this class that at one time had a wish list of Brew, Pickett, Antoine and Phillips. Now it's Pickett, Anding and player to be named later or counting on flips. That's some world class cope. Keep moving the goalposts of sunshine.
Ive spoken my opinion on Antoine. He's a good prospect but not sure a good CB. Doesn't change the fact that 3 years running the top DB on the board in LA has left the state(rank and top of the board are 2 entirely different things; goalposts again). For a program dependent on the state as much as we are, coupled with a fanbase so very full of state pride, that's a problem. One that sunshine folks like to gloss over while casting aspersions at others. Do we get to rescind the Raymond apology threads now? Or call halfsies? Only got half the job done. Or do only the wins count? Strange since the losses are what have our CB room looking like it does. Sometimes it really is about who you don't get.
Pardon while I wipe my tears. Some of us live in the moment and express our concerns in real time. Others choose to wait things out and save their concern until it's too late to fix. Hindsight if you will. Proactive vs reactive. A long toothed debate.

McBride and Spears last year were top rated LA db's although safeties. However I concede your point. If Corey Raymond is gonna as successful as he was in the past, we have to get the best in-state DBs first and foremost.

It is a long toothed debate, as is the debate about being negative or positive. I honestly think I have an objective point of view. The reason it comes across as so positive is because I objectively think we have a lot of things going our way, and feel like BK and his current staff are the right guys for the various jobs that will lead us to multiple championships.

Just look at what BK took over, and his trajectory up to this point. I don't think its innately positive to think that this ship is on the right course.

Speaking the truth though, you're not going to win every recruiting battle. All you can do is evaluate as well as you possibly can, so if your first choice doesnt come, that your second choice doesnt have a huge drop -off, in effect lightening the blow of missing out on your first choice.

LSU has historically done really well with its second choice, see Jamal Adams vs Hootie, Cam vs Lael, etc etc etc.

The question becomes do you have faith in the people on the staff at LSU to recruit the right guys, and will they develop them to reach their potential. If you can answer yes to those propositions, then you are in for a lot of success, and thats where I get my positive outlook from.

Well, that and some LSU fans have this tendency to be incredibly morose and negative, and in their eyes, if you dont think the sky is falling then youre looking at the world thru purple colored glasses, which is in itself also incredibly intellectually dishonest.

I'd add Mason Taylor > Max Johnson's brother.

Not just that, LSU has historically had more success with second choices even when both the first and second choice both pick LSU. Examples:

Eric Reid > Craig Loston (not same recruitng class but both were freshamn at the same time cuz Loston took a RS)

Jamar Chase > Terrace Marchall

Grant Delpit > Jacoby Stevans

BJ Ojulari > Phillip Webb

Jeremy Hill > Kenny Hilliard

Michael Brockers > Chris Davenport

Tyran Mathieu > Tharold Simon

This is just to name a few and its not to say that bigger recruits don't ever work out for us or that all of these guys were bad (many were still good in their own right) but it does say that our evaluations over the years has proven to be pretty solid.

If this list doesn't prove that rating players is a crapshoot, i don't know what will. A whole lot of people that did absolutely nothing, a couple mediocre guys, and less than a handful of gems. With all the draft picks during that time, it seems like Corey Raymond knew exactly what he was doing in recruiting and devloping didn't he? We got guys that they like and just like always, as long as he has a good DC ,Raymond will put out a decent secondary.

With NIL and seeing high rate that Brian Kelly will pick them up out of the transfer portal after 1 year, you're going to see a lot of in-state kids take NIL deals and try their luck out of state first. If they don't have success or get home sick, they'll hop in the portal with hopes of coming back to LSU. This is going to continue to happen at a high rate.

Oh hell yeah, been saying since I saw him play last year, best pure cover corner I've ever seen in high school in Louisiana. Basketball playing CBS just seem to work

Agree with this. Anding is better than Antoine. Anding and Pickett are a great pair.

I was just going by the On3 state rankings (I was a little surprised they had rankings going that far back considering they didn’t exist). They had him listed as a CB. I see 247 shows him as an ATH.

I’ll admit I don’t really remember Auburn’s 2010 recruiting class.

Was just pointing out that OP’s premise is silly, and certainly nothing new.
