According to this Rivals article (link below), Makaneole is being recruited to play guard or tackle.

LINK

Dude is 6'5" and 285 lbs, which is slightly bigger than Garrett Dellinger (6'5" and 280 lbs.) and Tristan Leigh (6'5" and 270 lbs.). At this height, I would think he's probably a bit tall for playing center. In the article, Makaneole mentions that his uncles are 6'6" and 6'7" so who knows if the kid has even finished growing as a 17-year-old.

By no means can I evaluate OL talent, but I've heard numerous folks point out that Kimo has impressive footwork for a HS tackle. Not sure about the kids arm-length, but I've learned that is an important attribute of a collegiate OT.

Anyway, I just found it interesting that Kimo is being considered for playing tackle and guard. Would be nice if he ends up being a versatile piece that could give you snaps at guard and/or Right-Tackle.

Looks like a tackle to Me. He is lean and can move.

It begs the question, when are they going to sign a center?

Jesus, I completely overlooked this. It's even more surprising considering Russell Wilson is barely 6'

Thanks for sharing, Crude.

Great question, Chalky. Wish I knew the answer, but I got no clue. I don't mean to be negative, but I can't help feeling that our staff almost seems content to simply piecemeal/patchwork an OL together every year.

I realize building/developing an OL is not an easy proposition, but I certainly don't believe it gets as much attention as O's defensive lines.

Or how about this question - when (& who) was the last true Center signed by LSU??

Ben Wilkerson possibly (back in the early 2000s)???

Lloyd Cushenberry back in the late 20 teens.

I think they see Martinez as the center of the future.

Good point cyborg, I believe you are correct about Martinez being groomed as next offense of center

Technically Cush was recruited as a Guard at least that’s what he was listed at on 247 but the transition from guard to center isn’t a tough one.

As long as you know that he’s 6-5 in high school.

He’s going to be 6-4 in college.

Will be 6-3 and 13/16s by the combine.

I think the right strategy is to grab at least four OL a cycle. Two true OTs, one true center (or one that is projected as OC) and lastly someone who’s versatile enough to play OG or OT.

Remember when Les Miles would do the opposite and recruit inside out...

We really missed on that kid out of Nola that went to UGA. I am drawing a blank on his name but he was a legit center and might have started for us this past year. (no disrespect to Liam, he busted his arse this year)

Really? He has an Andrus Peat body which is built to be a road grader at guard. I have no comment on Peat's ability, just talking about body style and position fit.

Didn’t Peat play tackle at Stanford?

Two true OTs,

These are hard to find. There are only a handful of true no doubt about it will play tackle at the next level Nationally period and barely any in LSU’s recruiting footprint. I would be happy with getting just one true OT as long as you get one project OT that if it doesn’t work out can play guard. Then at least 2 more of whatever is the best o line available you can get no matter the position they will play in college. To me guards and centers in high school are interchangeable and you won’t know exactly what position they play in college until you get them on campus.

I am of the strong belief you need at least 4 a year. Personally I believe you should have 10 spots in every recruiting class designated for 4 O line, 4 D line, 1 QB, and 1 MLB or an extra edge rusher because you can never have enough of those. The other 15 I am ok with whatever you do with them fo the most part.

He’s leaner than you think... probably around 265-270. His coaches had him trim down in the off-season and basically he will build from the ground up. Way better than the Kardell Thomas method of being 30+ pounds overweight coming in. He has the frame for OT but someone said the arm length might be lacking. If that’s the case he could be a OG or OC.
