The only problem with that logic is that when other teams start filling up their recruiting classes LSU will tumble down the rankings.
I'm sure you will be here praising all the diamond in the rough type players O signed and that recruiting rankings mean nothing. Trust the Coaches!

You can't have it both ways where you say ranks don't matter then turn around and scream #3 class.
It matters or it doesn't, pick a position and stick to it

Reasons we definitely wont challenge for #1 class:
- kicker + long snapper
- UGA + Bama
First reason is a legit explanation (nobody else really gives out 2 specialty scholarships this early seems like), second is something we just cant control. They are kicking everyone's butt in recruiting frankly. We could get every top LA kid we want to close out and our class still wont hold a candle to those 2. Talking adding Sopsher, Cain/Emery, Lee, Starks, Palmer, Parker, Bush/Kimbrough...still will be a bit below Bama and UGA's classes

the Juco TE is quetionable but he also unranked by the recruiting sites
We have a kicker and LS which bring down the avg.
Edwards is a quetionable take but he's not going to be in this class
The OL from IMG is the only other guy I'm not sold on

Back to the OP:
I really like McCallum. I was impressed with his film when someone posted it a couple months ago. He hits like a truck and does a good job of sorting through traffic. He's not exactly smooth, but he's a taller LB at 6'3 so that's understandable. Maybe he can develop into somewhat like a Rolando McClain type ILB.
