Bama only offered and accepted Falkins because they were hoping LSU would counter and go after him. It's harder for LSU to drop la kids than it is for bama. One of sabans many stupid games.

maybe that or they just mis-evaluated him.

I would assume to make him look more attractive to LSU, and have coaches waste time/visits trying to reel him back in, when Bama knows he's not all that big of a fish. That's the black helicopter version.
I doubt the Bama staff thinks LSU wouldn't do their HW on him though. Bama has probably been on him for awhile and thought he would be a much better prospect by his senior season.

Bama doesn't need to offer kids to try and trick LSU into offering. That's just absurd. They are probably the best football program in America, recruiting the best players in America. If they get a commitment from a Louisiana kid, it's not to trick LSU into recruiting him. It's because they think he will contribute to their football team.

I agree completely, that's why I said it was the black helicopter version. In reality I think the Bama staff made up their mind early on him, but he hasn't quite played up to where they thought he would at this point so they're having second thoughts.

I emailed Coach Crutch after reading the book about
Plaquemines Parish's High School football team post Katrina...this was obviously before he was terminated but I had a couple of good emails from him about his admiration for Saban and how his step son would probably be going to Bama...I honestly believe he will direct players to Bama given half a chance...

This. He's gonna get the Willie Ferrel treatment. LSU has made the same early eval mistakes in year's past.

As far as Falkins goes, it's quite odd that LSU isn't making a big deal out of him and just moved on.

He also told me that he was standing in the room when Saban told Leonard that money won't be the reason he doesn't pick Bama.
I can't see Saban making this comment with your source in the room. In fact, if that stuff is happening at Bama, I doubt Saban would be directly involved. He's smarter than that.

He isn't going to get canned for sending players to Bama. The school board is going to look at how well the players are doing in school and different factors. He isn't going to get fired without a scandal or poor record or anything else

This is already a crazy story (rumors or not), and its going to a long ride until Signing Day 2014. If LF does go to Salmen there's not a doubt in my mind I would go to a few games to watch him play.

It's probably out of context. If I had to guess, he's talking about unofficial visits, where LF's family would have to pay travel costs. Saban prob saying that's no big deal.
I agree, no way Saban would discuss something on the level of an NCAA violation with a HS assistant present. Hell, it's not like 17 year olds are good at keep their mouths shut either.

1. Alabama is one of the top recruiting attractions in the nation.
2. Saban is a great recruiter.
3. Alabama under Saban has not hesitated to over recruit by the numbers and promptly discard the "excess" like so much unwanted junk. Saban is ruthless in this regard.
You get the good with the bad in Nick Saban.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Crutchfield basically had his greatest (and only?) success at a 1A school beating up on the likes of St. Martin, and benefitted from the consolidation of talent at South Plaquemines following Katrina
This is absolutely correct.

I read it as the old Saban pitch "money won't be the reason you won't go to Alabama, because we will get you to the NFL," not as offering inducements.

Surely St. Aug is not so blinded by this recommendation that they still fail to see the issues raised by this hire.
Without regard to the Alabama recruiting issues, I think they have a loooooong, unpleasant future with this guy, unless they stay on him and keep him on a short leash.

Prom I really think Falkins offer has a lot more to do with Shyrone Carey than people think. A Saban recruit talking up his cousin, very early in the recruiting process. I wouldn't be surprised if the kid doesn't have a really good year to get dropped or Grey shirted.

This is a damn shame that this is allowed to happen in New Orleans at St. Aug high school. Why is the administration ok with this bullshite?
I hated the day when the best of St Aug went to Michigan, ND, Florida State and Miami..arrghhhh
