Who is the head coach at Sterlington now? I know my old HS coach left and went to Sterlington and had success.

Doty. Did you go to St. Mary’s? That’s where he came from.

No, I’m a little older. Del Ashley was my head coach at a smaller school named Pickering.

I’ve got a little cousin that plays at Sterlington I think he’s a junior this year, 6’5” probably 275-280ish. Not sure if he’s getting looks but he’s been going to camps all summer

Sterlington is very nice and one of the best places to raise a family in the state.

Agreed. My son graduated and played on their '17 State Championship team. Very nice place with with great school facilities and are top notch education-wise. Sales tax is ridiculous in Sterlington, though, at 11%.

My little brother is in the Sterlington band, so I usually make every game. Barr is an absolute stud. He high points the ball and is NOT afraid of contact, he'll go up and get it with footsteps approaching to lay him out. It's like he has an extra gear once he has the ball in open space. I think he's a take next year. He'll only get better from here. Kid is insanely talented and has a good head on his shoulders.

Granted, unless you're going for the annual fertilizer plant explosion there's not much reason to be in Sterlington. But there's no reason he shouldn't get a tsunami of attention now.

I disagree. Sterlington is an awesome place to raise a family and property value has risen like crazy in the last 2 decades. My dad and stepmom have lived in Sterlington 15 years or so. It's far enough from Monroe and Bastrop to not have much of any crime. Anyway, I hope Barr makes enough noise this year to get an offer from us. I'm sure we'll hop on the train once he has a few SEC offers. Kid will have success wherever he goes.

It’s crazy to see how Sterlington has came up. I graduated from St. Frederick in 2014 and we tied them in our jamboree at Sterlington. Neville’s head coach was ours at the time.

I went to JGS, then St Fred's before transferring to BHS. We probably know each other.

You sir have lost your ever loving mind!!!! Have you ever been to Sterlington??
IDIOT!

I dont live there but go through it quite often. Very nice place to live and the Schools are excellent. OR.. maybe you would rather live in Bastrop!
I'm glad all you goofy fricks want to write the city guide for Sterlington and that this town, above all others, that you've never lived in, you feel the call to white knight for.

However, the god damn point is about recruiting and schools, not the fricking town or it's economic growth, amenities, low crime rate, or whatever the hell else strikes your fancy. The point is scouts/services letting kids like Barr be under the radar because they ignore Sterlington and schools like it.

I find it a shame that it takes a board like this to bring a kid like Barr to light. From an LSU perspective I would like the to "know" about him way before his Sr. year before he ends up camping at AR State and then Arkansas gets a line on him. Worst case I, personally, wouldn't cry about him ending up at a Tech or ULM.

But best case is LSU gets a lead on him early because, assuming he's Div I/SEC talent, it is some of the easiest recruiting out there- if you get there early.

I've been semi-critical of LSU (across several coaching regimes) letting kids like this slip by. And I get it, you can't devote the resources to every small school that puts out a Div I player every 5 - 10 years. But this isn't 1986 where Lou Holtz is visiting every school along I-20.

From an LSU perspective if Barr (and the few kids out there like him) is an unknown to LSU it speaks to a "networking" problem. Now, he might not be an unknown to Hankton but I would think if he wasn't someone here would've spoken up saying LSU at least invited him to camp instead of people talking about how fiiiine of a town Sterlington is. I don't give a shite. I only give a shite about does Barr have a camp invite or not; and why not.

Not hammering on the current staff here, but the resources vs. reward calculation, with technology today, is a beneficial calculation. My issue is that no one is using that technology to identify these players. Hell, all one has to do is watch the Friday night recap on KNOE. And... if Doty has contacted every school in the state about Barr (shame on him if he hasn't) and was ignored we're talking about a whole other issue here.

I want to see these relatively rare guys from small schools at least, bare minimum, get invites to LSU camps where they can be evaluated. I don't want them at ARK, MSU, or OM where we end up late to the game in our own state. It isn't about the fricking town- it is about getting these kids on LSU's radar and how to get them exosure when no one outside a 3 parish radius seems to know the place exists (other than our baseball coaches, past and present).

Jon Randall Belton follows Barr on Twitter.

JRB is LSU’s director of scouting. Who also happens to be from West Monroe.

I don’t know if he’s camped, but they know about the kid.

annual fertilizer plant explosion

As you later stated, “this is a sports message board”. Yes, it is, and a bad accident that killed and injured people has nothing to do with a current recruiting prospect thread. That statement shows lack of respect and childish ignorance in re: to those families. I lost a good friend and a cousin in that explosion and I’d personally drive to the area and introduce you to some of those families,,, before I spanked your arse. At least show a little class and keep your childish mouth closed.

That building is a call center. Century moved to Denver. They just keep telling people it's in Monroe.

lol you call me childish immediately following a statement about how you are going to spank my arse (which is in serious doubt); that's rich.

No one said a damn word about insensitivity. All they did was draw an equivalency between the reference to the plant explosion (which happened) and somehow twisting that into me saying Sterlington was a bad place. I never said Sterlington was a bad place... or good.

The only time it gets any attention is when something like that happens. And that goes for many small towns the state over. The idea that simply referencing an event that happened is a referendum on the quality of the town is an idea created by people other than me. And it is simply a fabrication to express some outrage.

If I said a tornado hit Olla decades ago I said nothing about how nice, or terrible, Olla is. If I reference Watrproof flooding, same thing.

So keep manufacturing your outrage. If it makes you feel better so be it. I for one wont help you.

Your statement about the explosion was childish, and disrespectful, period. If you can’t figure that out, you have more serious problems than you know. I personally don’t care how you feel about Sterlington, just the making light of something that very good people died in. Remember, Karma can be a bitch.

Oh, btw, it “may be rich”, but, it’s real. I meant what I said.
Maybe next time, if you’re gonna try and spin it that way, keep your stupid thoughts to yourself that are disrespectful to peoples children, and families of the deceased, and keep it about recruiting. That’s what you’ve been saying you were doing, lol.

Eta, thread’s been hijacked enough. I’m done. If you’d like to issue me an invitation to introduce you and your statement to some of those families, I might could be reached at myhandle@gmail.

Yeah, you could be right; Neville might not be very good. West Monroe stunk it up in their jamboree, also.
