J'mond Tapp commits to Texas
quote:
He reached out to IT last night and we got to talking. He said he wasn’t close to announcing, but that he wanted to be a silent commit to Texas. Texas said a silent commit isn’t a real commit and if he wanted to commit it would have to be public.

This kind of tells me he's really not decided at all. The infamous "I wanted to be a silent commit" then they forced him into a public announcement. Seems like a bad strategy.

And yet people on this board get excited when someone is “silently” committed to us lol

I agree T. Seems like a really quick decision to make. But rule #1 "Never count out LSU for a Louisiana kid"

It’s easy to sell Texas right now because they haven’t played any games yet, therefore, they have no apparent weaknesses. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out as the season goes on.
We also have 2 guys at DE who have made waves at camp as freshman (Carter, Jones). So early playing time might be a factor here for Tapp. And yes the DL rotates in and out a lot but he’s most likely going to be UT’s best DL recruit if he indeed signs there. It ain’t over til the fat lady sings.

It’s just a dream school.

This goes back to when Tapp played the popular NCAA video game.
Solid reasoning.

It's amazing how we can sign receivers and corners galore but we have to fight for linemen in our own backyard.

This + Texas to the SEC I think will make them extremely dangerous in recruiting.

They have a hash tag #BootToAustin

So you're telling me Shazz is next..

Maybe, but I’m not worried about WR. They have guys in state ready to fill that spot
Tapp is a loss if it sticks but I would bet it doesn’t

Andre Carter definitely has a good resume, so he's certainly qualified...but I'm not sure he's the recruiter that Bo is.

They’re gonna get a boot whenever ULaLa goes in dry on them.

I just saw Shazz replying to the tweet was all
. Doesn't sound like Tapp is going to stick and committed way too early.

Hope we get the fact that with the restraints off, desperate out of state schools with deep pockets are going to start pulling more and more studs from Louisiana.
I’m trying to think of other in-state kids who are committed elsewhere that have LSU offer Who am I missing
Yeah, I understand the hand wringing but the idea that schools haven’t been going all out to get Louisiana kids until just now is ridiculous. At no point have we gotten every single kid every single year.
All of that said this is where O earns his money more than anywhere else. That and I have no idea why LSU would suddenly be less attractive now when we’ve got a non offensive skill player pulling down huge NIL money right out of the gate

I lived in Austin for several years and regularly go back to visit friends and trust me, it’s not entirely a coincidence that UT started underachieving after Austin really started blowing up in the mid to late 2000’s and it’s on a completely different level today. There are a TON of distractions all around & if a kid is going to be wowed by that there’s a better than not chance he’s going to fall victim to those distractions once’s he’s there.
