He completed 150 of 228 passes for 37 touchdowns and threw just four interceptions. Tyler also rushed 83 times for 673 yards and scored eight touchdowns, leading the Greenies to a 9-2 record and the first round of the Division III playoffs. “So much is placed on his ability as a quarterback, but he is just as good of a person on and off the field,” Newman coach Nelson Stewart said. “He is special. He is just a character kid with a 4.0 gpa who embodies the words student and athlete.

I'm friends with a lot of 90's players. There is much grumbling amongst them because of LSU's lack of pursuit for this young man.

Is he willing to play something other than QB?

I don't know. a lot of those guys see it as disrespect that LSU hasn't made any kind of move on him especially after bama had him for a visit this season.

He is listed at 5-9, but in reality he is likely 5-7. All I can say is I have seen him play, and he is a play maker. Great vision. Great arm strength. Great quickness....almost as if he is on a different level of those around him in 2A. And I realize it's 2A.

He is 5 foot 6, and 165 lbs. I appreciate his accomplishments on and of the field, and I am sure he is a fine young man.

I dont think he has a home at LSU.

If he can accomplish everything you say he does at a school as good as Newman, he will accomplish great things- they just will probably not be on the football field.

420 is being kind, there are a whole bunch of former Tigers that are extremely pissed that LSU has not even contacted Jay. Not Dunson's, either, some very respected and loved ex-Tigers. Fortunately, Herb is not one of them, at least publicly.
As far as Jay, I'd rather him on the Roster than a backup HS kicker. Shyrone Carey, Trindon Holliday were vertically challenged, as was Herb Tyler. I think if he'll get interest going forward, but on his own merit, not to pacify ex players.

perhaps he's the next Tony Moss.

He might be in position to be a preferred walk-on, but you have to be careful not to actively recruit him, otherwise he would be considered a counter if he receives any financial aid.

If he was 5'6 and ran a 4.3 it would be different. Maybe a great academic school that plays a little football. Carnegie Melon?

I can see inviting him for some visits. Get him some attention to help him garner interest with other schools.

If he gets an academic scholarship would it still count against the 85 if he "walked on"? I think so, the 85 is any scholarship (Bear Bryant rule).

If he is that good of a student he should look at Vandy or Duke or another school that is doing relatively well in football lately and would offer him a more valuable degree.

I watched him play twice. A good ball player but we have bigger , faster and better in this class. The only thing he may be able to do is play slot or corner. If you are as small as him you better run like lightning. I didn't see honey badger type talent. We have trey Quinn and trying to get Speedy and Dupree at receiver. No spot for him here.
