His number is $1.5 million per season last I heard.

I’m with you on this one.

They promised him $13M and gave him $0 when it was “due”.
Most of the top 150 recruits have a "handler". The handler in the case of the FL kid wanted 300K for him to sign. FL told him to pound sand. The handler had Rashada go dark on FL. The NIL deal from FL wasn't actually a contract but a "proposal". Both sides screwed this up.
SI has a pretty good breakdown on what happened.
SI Story
Underwood is going to get 1.25-1.5 million per year more than likely.

My opinion is if a kids demands millions, move on. The type of person that demands that much without ever playing a down is not the type of person who wants to win on a team, they want to win off the field.

There are two types of recruits these days: those you can buy and those that buy-in. Most of the time, the ones you can buy don't work out so well.
LSU might get outbid on occasion, but that doesn't mean that LSU isn't bidding.

While I'm quickly getting the reputation as a posi-tiger or koolaid drinker, I'll go on record as saying Underwood will be an LSU tiger. He will certainly earn the numbers people are talking about him getting, but it will be a situation that is mutually beneficial to the player, the university, and the businesses that utilize him as the face of their organization.
That is how this NIL is supposed to work anyway. It's not supposed to be pay for play by the university, however the university can certainly use its influence and connections to ensure a player of his caliber is given the opportunity to make 1.5 mil and even more, based off his popularity and production.

That all sounds great, but you know other schools will offer him an NIL package up front on top of a chance to earn while on campus.

If my post led you to believe we aren't offering any money up front then I apologize. We absolutely will, but where the recruit will garner the most earnings will be from the companies utilizing them, and not the collective of the university.
As it should be and as it was intended. This isn't unique to LSU, most schools are taking this approach. The so-called haves and have nots alike.

I completely agree with your statement I just wasn’t sure if you meant the player would earn all of his money once he’s on LSU’s campus or at the time of signing through the collective. I believe the way LSU has it structured is set up to work better long term than some of these schools paying money up front for kids who have yet to prove anything in college. Boosters and collectives are already growing weary of paying kids for either not producing or for transferring.

They have more money but they are reluctant to spend it on sports. Too prestigious

His annual NIL valuation is $434k. He will go somewhere, where he's guarantied at least that.

Paying a player to sign isn't what NIL was intended.
Fix it and let these kids earn those $$.

Couldn't agree more! However it has turned into just that.

quote:Not at all. All these guys are getting paid. The guys that buy in are happy to take a reasonable offer from the school they want to play at because the school is more important than the money. The players you buy are simply looking for the most money (and may even start playing schools against each other to try and squeeze more money out).

Watch at the end of this season the NCAA is going to reel in this NIL mess. Possibly because of the IRS. Cuss me, slap me, whatever, the Tax Man is coming.......
How crazy is it that our best hope for college football is the IRS? Strange days indeed.

The crazy thing is , if you want to keep up with the BIG dogs . You gonna have to Ante up or fall behind .

Posted on 8/16/23 at 3:25 pm to logansrun

I know it’s been stated before but Underwood, Moore, and RB room of Berry, Durham, and Simon would be crazy

With how things are going right now, with the conference realignment, there is too much money involved to let teams just fall behind in your conference.
The conferences will have to fix this so that players are getting a fair deal and the schools are chosen because of the merits and not money. Like not allow any upfront money OR cap the upfront money so that it’s affordable for all big conferences.
At that point all teams are equal and the player decides on the school that can make him a money earner by putting him into a position to do so. At that point he can market himself. But this thing about handing 18 year olds millions simply by signing is ridiculous. There is no way that can keep up because these people who have become millionaires and billionaires didn’t do it by just handing out their money or making shitty investments.
These type of people don’t typically risk their money often, IF ever. So this money will eventually have to be generated by either the conference with a cap and or the player once he’s earned it. People that make 300k a year are more likely to fumble away 50% of their pay than a millionaire or billionaire is to lose 1%. Those people typically grow, not spend. So even if it’s happening, it won’t be for long. It might be happening now with shoe deals and things like that but the second that company doesn’t get his money back from the initial investment, that game is over buddy!

There have always been have and have nots. NIL isn’t changing that because you’re going to have teams that have boosters/alumni that are willing to pony up while others are not.

We’re talking about a super team if we start landing these guys and they stay. It looks like LSU is working on a team that can’t be caught in the open field as we speak.
I don’t give a damn what anyone says about NIL and LSU, we have one of the smartest coaches in the entire country and he will figure out how to get his roster where it needs to be to win a national title. That’s the only reason he breaths right now. I just hope he keeps that fire or it the temperature goes up after he’s able to take a deep breath. Hopefully he’s thinking dynasty and best teams ever assembled at that point.
LSU can become a monster man! It looks like Brian Kelly knows exactly how to get it done too. I’m really not concerned anymore because the transfer portal can fix or plug most short term holes and at LSU, that’s really been our only issue, aside from coaches not making the best decisions for LSU’s future, which was really Les Miles and I’ll say Ed O after winning it all.
But it’s proven that even an average coach can keep the program up and win a championship every 3-5 years. With a proven coach like Kelly or Saban, the program can be top 5 in the country. Consistency has still yet to be proven but I think that’s coming with Kelly. I have to hand it to him, he knows how to manage a program. Let’s see if he can make that program elite for consecutive years.
