Kerry Kittles was pretty damn good at St. Aug. One state runner-up and at least one state title I believe. Not sure of individual stats.

randy livingston. i played against him also. the guy was so smooth. i remember coach telling us at halftime how good we were defending him. at the end of the game he had 38 pts. it was the most quiet 38 i ever saw. i thought he had 10. it was just effortless for him.

Where does Duane Spencer fit in this thread?

Kittles had him a squad around him though. Very good player though.

Randy Livingston, Karl Malone, Elvin Hayes, Stromile Swift, there are a ton of talent that have come out of Louisiana. I would rank Smart pretty high up there also.

I played against him in high school also (several times - Newman was in our district), just unbelievably smooth and gifted. We would go watch him play if we were off, saw him play against St. Aug in the Dome. No one on the court came close to being in the same stratosphere as Randy.

Brandon Bass has to be in the discussion.

Just to give a little perspective to how good Livingston was;
quote:Ran across that in hoopedia. Thing is, I remember him limping pretty bad even before he was sidelined.
LSU redshirt freshman Randy Livingston was leading the nation with 10 assists per game in mid-season before he was sidelined for the year because of his third knee injury since signing with the Tigers.

I have heard coach k say it several times over the last 5 or so years. He has/had an xm radio show. No link, this is where I heard it. I will make it a point to ask him next April at boo Williams aau in Hampton. Believe it or not, you can briefly shoot the bull with just about any coach in America at these events.

You want someone to go and dig up an ancient comment that coack K said about Livingston??
Man, I tell you some of you and the nerve you have, you should go and dig it up yourself. I have lil doubt that coach K said that, Livingston was that good.

That stupid magic johnson camp changed the future of lsu basketball. With a healthy Livingston we never go on the slide that led to the Lester earl situation, probation, Brady, Trent, johnny Jones. I remember reading some comments by nba executives saying he could go pro straight out of high school and may be the first pick. This was pre Kevin Garnett starting that round of high schoolers skipping college. Lsu would have immediately been legit final four contenders with him on the team and healthy. I can't imagine being that good at something and being on the brink of nba superstardom and lose it all in one step.

it's hard finding stuff on small schools

It's not an ancient comment dipshit. It was supposedly said the "last few years."

Randy was a very smart basketball player. I jut can't fathom that he was the best coach K has ever seen.

Randy's senior year they barely beat port barre and willie davis in the playoffs. Some games Randy was ultra impressive. Others way too passive.

Lester Earl 3 state titles and Mc Donald's AA
quote:
Few players start for four years on a high school basketball team in one of Louisiana's top two classifications. No one had ever done that and helped their team to state titles in each class. That all changed this year when Lester Earl helped lead Glen Oaks to a Class 5A title that followed two Class 4A titles. A string of other honors have followed for the 6-foot-9 senior post player who led his Baton Rouge team to an astounding four-year record of 104-29. Included in those totals were marks of 16-1 in the playoffs and 32-2 in district play. Earl is a Parade All-American, Louisiana's Gatorade Circle of Champions Player of the Year and a finalist for the James A. Naismith Award given to the nation's top high school basketball player. His school even retired his number 50. There is one more honor to add. Earl has been named Louisiana's Mr. Basketball for all seven classifications by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
