With a few weeks until signing day, we have the 14th ranked class on 247, 13th ranked class on Rivals, and 12th ranked class on On3.

Note that Clemson and Auburn are sitting there with ~17 commitments. If they land 3-4 more commitments, they'll both pass us.

247:

On3:

Rivals:

Like the OP said, this just doesn't make sense. Auburn is terrible, Florida is 5-7 and won't be going to a bowl, and Mississippi State and Texas A&M have no coach. The landscape couldn't be more favorable right now for LSU to be cleaning up in recruiting, and yet we're not getting it done.

LSU could easily have the 5th ranked class in the country had they kept Cai Bates and Ondre Evans, and then simply kept Reliford and McKinley in state. That's it - keep the CBs committed, and get commitments from the in-state defensive linemen. That would put us with a top 5 class. Miller and Bussey would then turn that into a top 3 class.

But here we are.

We tried to use the portal to “patch” holes this year and look how well it worked. Speights/Sam/Chestnut/Burns were all portal additions (Burns came a year earlier)

Recruiting isn’t nearly as impulsive as the fans that follow it. Would focus on the 2025 class & judge lsu on that. It’s the first real class they’ve been able to grow true roots with.

LSU recruiting in particular reflects the talent in-state that year. It’s cyclical & if you have a great crop of talent every 3 years or so, you’re doing good.

The success we've had this year will make itself far more evident next year.

Recruiting momentum doesn't really happen in real time.

Based off of our successes a year ago, our Recruiting is in line with that.

It's not like we have a shite class this year anyways.

Let's see what it looks like after the December early signing period, and after the transfer portal signings.

I'm not sure how likely it is, but there is a path to a top 5 class still open to us. We just need for some things to bounce our way.

Even if we end up with a class just inside the top 10, there are many many players for this class that are going to be instrumental in an LSU championship run.

I'm incredibly excited for the future of this program. There are some unknowns going in to next season, but I think, especially on the offensive side of the ball that there is something special going on here at LSU, and Nuss and the offense will prove that next season.

On the defensive side of the ball, I'm eager to see how Kelly goes about evaluating the support staff across the board.

I think the what ifs of this season will haunt BK if he doesn't take some action to ensure one of the 3 phases of the game doesn't undermine the successes of the others.

Last year, if we have even competent special teams play, how many more wins do we have ?

This year the defense was the fatal chink in the armor.

If we ever want to contend, we can't have these glaring holes. He knows that better than any of us ever could.

All in all, it's a great time to be an LSU fan. Despite what some of you miserable fricks would have everyone believe.

Yeah, a major problem with having to rely on the portal is that it's oftentimes a bit of a grab bag; you don't really know what you've got. I think we all expected much better things from Speights, Chestnut and Harris. Obviously, the coaches expected more.

You've just got to cross your fingers and hope you recruit the guys that work out and manage to fit with your culture. Kiffin made it work this year, but it may blow up in his face next year or the next if he keeps relying on it heavily. It worked out for us last year, but not this.

We have to break the cycle of rebuilding every year with the portal. A few transfers a year can definitely help any roster, but the high school recruiting simply has to be the focus, and it has to get vastly better on the defensive side. And there is absolutely no way to do that without a massive overhaul with the defensive staff.

House ran off Jamar Cain. Since then our defensive recruiting has fallen off a cliff. Cain was an elite recruiter and we no longer have one of those on defense.
