It’ll be Pickett and Stamps on the outside and Woodland in the Slot.

Bout ready to stop following recruiting until signing day

Don't be surprised if we hit the portal hard for atleast one veteran starting cornerback. This defense is going to have to be infused hard with the portal on all three levels.

I think Toviano is Star next year and will make an impact. I expect a big jump from him.

I don’t think woodland has any advantage over the incoming players.
Kelly played bookend True Freshmen OTs and starter Campbell and Taylor day 1 in 2022.
And guys like Spears, Whit Weeks and Perkins played a lot as freshmen.
Woodland played Game 1 as a freshmen too.
It’s a very real thing that freshmen sometimes aren’t ready week 1.

Honestly, putting 2 true freshmen corners as your starters seems like a terrible idea.

Derek Stingley is only one freshman corner

Emery Jones didn't start until mid year. The Campbell point stands.

Kelly isn't afraid to play Freshmen. He is afraid to play them game 1 in a marquee matchup. He'd rather lose with vets out there than send true freshman to the fire right away.

Jones started 12 games.

Re-read the statement. Was Stingley able to split into two CBs? He was pretty damn impressive, but I never saw that trick.

That will depend if anyone leaves and how they feel about the growth of the guys who have been playing the most.
I expect more activity around Safety than CB. Depending on how Spears, Jackson and Toviano work out, we may need depth and help there. Gilbert really hasn’t worked out well.

Agreed just need the kid to keep his head down off the field the talent is absolutely still there for him to be a good fb player us

I don't think stamps is going inside.
I actually think he would be a good free safety though.

Don’t think we will hit the portal for a cb. We will be loaded at that spot. Stamps will have over 15 starts under his belt, woodland has played a good amount this year, you got Pickett and Phillips coming in , anding is coming in during he summer. Safety is even bigger priority we’re set at cb imo

quote:ORRRRR, ORRRRR, and here me out because i know some of yall are by far THE slowest people on this board, starting two freshman corners in game one vs a 3rd year at the school OC and 3rd year starting QB who is on pace for 3300 yards and 35 TDs this year, does not seem like the smartest idea.
Maybe but not until game 3. In game 1 the starters will be stamps and woodland until they massively fail and then they will start the freshman and everyone will wonder why they weren't starting from the get go. Its the Kelly way.
Woodland was seen as an impressively underrated guy as a freshman. Woodland is still seen as an impressively underrated guy and in year two he will have the weight added and be able to handle receivers better.
Stamps will likely be moved, I don't think it's game one though. I still remember the 2010 game where we played North Carolina with several freshman in the secondary (and Patrick Peterson) game one. LSU's pass rush was great and run defense was elite. However we gave up over 400 pass yards and 3 TDs. Before that year Yates (the QB), was considered a bad QB. The year before playing LSU he threw for 2140 yards and 14 TDs to 15 ints. Even the year he went ham he wasn't really great.
At best one of them will be starting game one. I think both will be in rotation year one though.
Despite what people say, LSU's pass defense has increased dramatically this year. We don't give up a ton of big plays and we are tied for 7th in the country (with 7 other teams), giving up just 7 TD passes. We are obviously playing without the usual LSU level secondary talent, but still holding strong.
