The part of the equation that worries me is the underlying agendas of these NIL deals. Are they truly looking for a financial return for paying these players? Or are some just very rich fans desperate to see their team win a championship? If I was a multibillionaire, I'd happily fund LSU NIL deals to watch our Tigers win.

I bet Oklahoma State wishes T Boone Pickens was still alive. They'd have probably signed a top 5 class this year.

Surely you idiots don’t really believe the figures are anywhere close to this?

Perhaps you’re all dumber than I thought. Even the $450,000 is complete bullshite.

Oh I know that and I have no idea how dumb you think I am, nor do I really care. I just like throwing that number out there because it IS the actual number that started this shite back in November when Prime drew the number one prospect to fricking Jackson State for yes, $893 large. Half of that at 8T4 is certainly not out of the realm of possibilities.

A federal NIL law with a restriction against money coming from Non-Practicing Entity LLCs would do the job. That would prevent this as a means for pooling resources behind the scenes.

The boosters are still paying coaches salaries and donating to TAF for facilities.

Boosters get a tax deduction for contribution to the school and any non-profit booster organization like the TAF. That’s not insignificant for a wealthy person looking for tax shelters.

NIL payments won’t get them shite. It’s just a black hole.

This is something that came down from Congress.

??

It didn’t come down from Congress and that’s part of the problem. It was basically judicial legislation by the Supreme Court. Then each state started hastily threw together their own law to govern it.

We NEED a federal NIL law that puts everyone on the same playing field and restricts some of the bullshite.

It most certainly will happen as these th, eh kids aren't professional athletes.

If it doesn't happen it will completely destroy college football. As much as I love college sports, I'll kind of enjoy watching it crumble. We had a great product, but everything some people touch turns to shite.

Giving millions of dollars to attention-seeking teenage athletes that have never had money, never had to manage it, never had to control the impulse to spend it, now having to compete for playing time against equally or more talented players hundreds of miles from any parental guidance. What could go wrong?

There are, however, restrictions around using NIL deals as a recruiting tool. That the NCAA can put in some sweeping changes that would be easy to monitor and control.

It'd piss off the Gordon's of the world though

LOL. You really believe that?

All the NIL numbers being thrown around are bullshite.

Sure, some players are being paid. It's a fraction of the numbers being talked about. Plus, it's to be paid over time. That dude will be at Jackson State less than a year before he realizes what a terrible mistake he made.

Well, yes. You obviously haven't been paying attention to how that played out.

tax deduction

The same money still gets paid out, tax “decuctions” / write offs just allow “where” the money goes— all to IRS or some to IRS and some to a preferred place.

Finishing 7-5 with the most expensive class and coach in CFB would be one of the most Aggy things ever

In Jacoby's case, and I suspect many others, the development part was way behind the highest bid in their decision. Many of these kids’ families that have nothing were looking for that immediate gratification, not looking at long term.

Pretty sure there is a clause that says if Aggy gets NCAA sanctioned on his watch the contract is no longer guaranteed

while i do suspect aTm to have buyer's remorse in relation to the class and what they'll be able to achieve, i don't see them firing Jimbo over it...

The question I have is whether or not there is a plan in place to sustain this kind of spending as recruits for next cycle have heard the stories and expectations have to be for anyone signing with Texas 8&4 to be part of the gravy train.
