The only reason they live in New Orleans is because Archie played for the Saints.

Meh - they settled in New Orleans and Archie made a good living as a pitch man, in New Orleans, based on what he did as a Saint.

So, culturally, the kids are New Orleanian, with a Mississippi twang.

That doesn't mean they "have" to go to LSU, but it doesn't mean they have to hate LSU, either.

He will probably never say it publicly but I bet it is well known in the Manning family that Archie is not a big fan of LSU. Back then LSU Ole Miss rivalry was probably at its peak.

I don’t think this means that he would be upset if a Manning goes to LSU or try and stop it but I think the family understands this and it may sway them to look at other schools.

Personally being born and raise in New Orleans and a graduate of LSU, I would like to know wtf is Archie issue with LSU? I remember a video of him one of his grand kids was like yea LSU and he look at the kid like he was going to smack fire out his arse and said "we don't root for those guys". Archie family has been here for decades and it is natural for them to want to root for the home team.

If i get moved to bama for work, i would be the exact same way Archie is. I have no problem with out of state people who move to Louisiana rooting against LSU.

If Cutcliffe is the man, sounds like the kid will be going to Duke. Not a bad school to get a good education. Whether he'll have a sufficient offensive line there to protect him may be another story. Cutcliffe is the type of coach who does more with less, however.

Remember the Manning documentary. At the end, Archie was asking all of the children who their favorite team was. The expected answer was Ole Miss. One of them said LSU and this almost made Archie fall off of the steps. Was that Arch?

If Cut was younger I could see that being a possiblity but he's going to be turning 69 when this kid's a freshman in college. If he's even still coaching then, it won't be for long.

I can clear this up for you. Archie HAS NO issue with LSU. The “issue” is some yo-yos on the rant saying so.

Archie Manning is a mature ex-professional player. He understands the game, at the college level and above, is a business. He’s not into all that rah, rah, cis boom bah crap that we are as fans.

When Archie’s boys were ready to begin their college training for their future money making roles, Archie probably studied the landscape, and picked the closest university that had the proper scheme, coaching and stability, so that his boy could be best prepared for the NFL. He chose Tennessee because David Cutcliff was there. He chose very wisely. In doing so, he bypassed his alma mater and his state’s school, because both would have done nothing to help his son.

When it was Eli’s turn David Cutcliff was at Ole Miss, so he went there. That was probably their preference, since it was Archie’s alma mater - a place where he was loved and revered.

I read Archie’s autobiography years ago. He talked about as a kid he cried himself to sleep the night of Billy Cannons run. I just can’t any Manning ever playing at LSU

How do you know? There are perfectly logical reasons why the two QBs did not go to LSU. Why do you need to manufacture an anti-LSU bias? Archie was a professional football player. He understands that it's a profession.

I should not have to explain this, but because HISTORY... that’s why.

1958 LSU MNC
1959 Billy Cannon’s legendary Halloween night punt return (and goal line stand)
1960 Ole Miss MNC

More importantly, when Manning was QB 10 years later, the Ole Miss-LSU rivalry was still at, or very near, its heated pinnacle.

See rankings of Top teams from the 1950’s:
LINK

and 1960’s (when Archie was in school): LINK

This was the last time Ole Miss was relevant as a consistent and viable option for SEC champion in football. And certainly Archie will NEVER forget the 61-17 beatdown he received by LSU his SR year.

Now you go back and look at the game result history between LSU-Ole Miss.
