Gotta get young studs in the program, but get proven commodities with experience.

What if we get outbid for those players too?

We won’t be the only school trying to plug holes in the roster

My thoughts exactly if we can't keep up for high school players what makes you think we can with transfers

Our portal hit rate is about 1/4 at this point and our coach came out and said we're not going to buy players, so...

Do you wake up everyday worried about if you could die in a car wreck today too?

I know you’re a troll, but you can at least wait for LSU to actually be outbid to melt instead of just preemptively melting.

There’s teams that go all in for recruits and teams that go all in for the portal. It’s an uphill battle for us either way.

Not true, they had to focus on building with young guys first & now they have money to spend.

quote:

I think everyone that follows us knows that we weren't very aggressive in the transfer portal. We put together a defensive line using minimal resources.
We have really put ourselves in a position, and I'll use this term loosely, to stay well under 'the cap' so that we could be quite aggressive this year. We will be very aggressive in that area, as well as bring in 16 mid-year players." "We think that the program, in terms of the culture and the standards, are such that we can do that now. Where we can bring in 16 freshmen and maybe one, if not the largest transfer portal classes as well."

Yeah like Jardin Gilbert and Brown and Johnson from Ohio State. They have been great for us.

I actually don’t know how this hierarchy works, but since Austin Thomas is the “GM”, does what Kelly says even matter?

Does Kelly have authority over how AT acquires the players his staff want, or is AT completely autonomous and can disregard Kelly’s wishes?

At the pro level the coach and GM are separate for a reason, so I wonder if this is the case with LSU.

That’s fine. And what did he say about that more recently?

He said they will be aggressive in the portal this offseason

We generally agree (I think) that LSU needs to add an elite, experienced receiver.

When/if such a player enters the portal, Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, A&M, Georgia and Alabama, among others, will be after him. If LSU is getting outbid by those same programs for the elite high school recruits, are they going to just sit by and let LSU take the top players from the portal? I doubt it.

Without the portal we would have sunk in 22 and 23.

Same. Hunt players from mid tier D1 programs, Texas Tech, Baylor, Iowa State, UNC, etc. etc.
